Ok, I'm not sure if this goes here or in hardware, but here it is...I installed fs9 on my new computer, which automatically put in the the x86 file. I tried downloading aircraft into a created fs_downloads file, but after, it says I don't have permission to view it, which doesn't make sense because I have granted access to myself for all files. Also, if I just look into the downloads file starting from my computer, there are no downloads visible. I can only view them if I'm trying to download another file into the downloads folder. Anyone have any idea on what's going on? Thanks.

You did not say but I am guessing you are using Win 7 as your Operating System.

If so, there are many posts now suggesting that installing any version of FS in the default Program Files (x86 or not) area is not the best idea.

Installing in that location subjects the program to numerous Security and Permission issues which can be avoided if FS is installed elsewhere. One example would be C:\FSGames or just C:\FS9.

There are many threads at many forums regarding the best install location if running Win 7 or Vista.


If you did install in the default location and don't wish to start over, try Right clicking on the FS9.exe file and under the Compatibility tab, set it to "run as adminstrator".

Also you can try temporarily turning off UAC (User Account Control).  I do not recommend leaving it off, especially if others have access to your computer.  With UAC off you should be able to view and manipulate your downloaded files.

I installed both FSX and FS9 under Windows 7. They both went into the x86 folder thingy. They both work. I have had no access problems with either installation. I got rid of FSX-- too low on the framerates for my tastes...

Where did you create this download folder? If it's on your Desktop or a location outside the Program Files directory like C:\fs_downloads you should have no problems opening it.

Please note there is a difference between files & folders. Files are stored in folders (or directories). The 'Program Files (x86)' directory is the default location for 32-bit applications like FS9 in 64-bit versions of Vista & Windows 7.
