New Installation

Just put FS9 on with this new chip and increased RAM. It virtually FLIES over the old Phenom 9500 and 4 Gb of RAM. Looks like it maxes out at 60fps, according to Fraps. But I have a problem: I don't see where I can click to get the locked spot view. The interface looks different. I don't see a small thumbnail of the aircraft anymore. How can this be? I have installed this very same set of discs onto various iterations of my previous computers at least half a dozen times in the past, and nothing ever changed like this. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Locked Spot and thumbnails of aircraft are FSX features - not found in FS2004.

And the interface is considerably different also.

Could it be you are confusing the two versions?

Just tried to install the Stratojet Merlin, one of my favorite aircraft. I get a screen that tells me FS has stopped working after I select all the things about it I want. It has been a long, long time since I have installed any add-on airplanes with this sim. I think I did it right. The plane showed up in the list of selectables, so I have to think I did it right. When clicking Fly Now, comes the small window and the lock-up. Could it be that the Merlin is not compatible with Windows 7? Maybe I did not install something it needs to execute? I know some airplanes require the sound file to be installed into the sounds.dll file or a crash to Desktop is imminent, but this is not happening.

Oh, no. I distinctly remember being able to lock the swimming affect of the view. I hate the slo-mo, moving around stuff. There is a place you can click to terminate the "gradual transition" look. I have forgotten how to find it.

Just noticed you and I have exactly the same number of posts at 487, as of this post.

I found it. I went to the Learning Center (first time ever in all of the previous installs) and found it under Views and something or other. Just press the Alt key and the Views menu comes up. It's simple from there. Now what I wish was that there was a way to always have gradual transition clicked off...

This is what I get when I try to install an add-on airplane: Image

I have now tried the Merlin three times, to no avail. I get the screen above every time. Where is Boikat? He knows about these things...

I downloaded Merlin01.zip from here to check it out. http://www.simviation.com/fs_concept5.htm

I suspect that GaugeSound.dll is the cause of your problem. I copied this from the included "VERY IMPORTANT readme first.txt" file.

VERY IMPORTANT:

YOU MUST COPY THE FILE

Just installed the AlphaSim F7F-6 and it went perfectly. Functions just like old times. Tried the same procedure with the Merlin and I get the same old flop-o-rama...

Did you find & install GaugeSound.dll to the correct location? If so it's possibly incompatible with Windows 7.

Not yet. Been a rough afternoon. My mom had open-heart surgery a few days ago. My dad kept it secret from me. She's doing well, but I'm not. My mom is 87 on the 26th. She is not in good shape for such a drastic operation. I'm sorry to have bled on anyone...
