FS9 on Second HDD

This is a question for anyone who has installed FS9 on a 2nd hard drive.
On my old machine, there were two hdd's....both 250 gb. The 2nd (E: ....perhaps) was completely blank....no empty folders such as "Programs", for example. I had to reinstall FSX at one time, so pointed the installer to the blank hdd. It installed, but without creating any master folders such a Program Files, Flight Simulator X, etc. Just all the individual FSX folders.....everything worked fine, though.
I just purchsed a 2nd 500gb Seagate Barracuda (1.2 revision) to match my current hard drive. The original HDD is unpartioned and consists of only a C: Drive. The 2nd hdd is physically in the computer, but I've got to find a SATA connector (thought one would have come with the HDD!) to get it set up. I will likely partition it to two 250 gb drives. I want to reinstall my FS9 to one of those drives.
Now to my question....in your experience, should I make a "Programs" folder and a "Flight Simulator 2004" folder on that new drive and install to the empty "Flight Simulator 2004" folder...to the "Programs" folder, or just let it install to the empty hdd in any way it wants?
Thanks, and all the best,
Terry

Hello Terry....
I would imagine that the "Programs File" list of programs is only displayed in the Start Menu on your Main (default) Hard Drive (C Drive).
You can generate a "Programs" Folder, incorporating the FS9 Folder on your 2nd Drive, but you will need a FS9 .exe Shortcut pointing to the program on your Desktop.
That should do the job.
My FSX is on a separate Drive but I have to either search the drive for it, or put a shortcut to the FSX program on my desktop. It wont appear in the Start > Programs Menu.

If you are running XP you can easily have it appear on your Start/Program menu by using the Start/Settings/Taskbar and Start menu dialogue.
To get to where you can drag a shortcut into the proper location, follow this "route":
Start/Settings/Taskbar and Start Menu/Customize/Advanced
Select the User, the Start menu and then Programs.

I have FS9 and FSX as well as all other Flight Sim Programs and aircraft.exe installers on an external harddrive (E:\) and ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS recognizes everything from that drive. No problem with me. Also, START / PROGRAMS / MICOROSOFT GAMES has all the links for FS9 and FSX.
when you install FS9 or FSX it asks if you want to place a shortcut in your PROGRAMS list. point to where you want the shortcut and voila, it gets placed.
My external HDD (E:\) is 320G, after install to the computer it is 297G, with a free space of 226G. FS9 is currently ~30G, FSX= ~15G, then i have all of my music and pictures, and everything else that I do not want on my 30G internal drive.

Thank you gentlemen for your very helpful responses. Have the 2nd hdd installed, recognized by Win 7, partitioned into two drives (J: and K:) of approx 250gb each, and formatted.
What I plan to do is to make a folder in the J: drive simply called "Simulator", then run the FS9 installation, pointing to that folder and see what happens!
Nice to see you Fozzer.....now I'm going to have to re-locate all David's FS9 Tips & Tweaks (was it?) files to download and browse....forgot everything I ever knew about FS9....been on FSX since acceleration came out.
Thanks again...all the best,
Terry

FS9 and X will both ask you where you want to install the progams, standard install C: or somewhere else.... choose somewhere else and then browse to where you want it to install. In your case, J:\ , it will then ask a few screens later, where in the START menu you want the .EXE shortcut. just point to where you want it, and it'll set everything up for you without problems.

Hi all,
Crikey, talk about over complicating things:
When fs9 says its going to install to C:\program files\etc
