Radios and Autopilot suddenly go dead

This seems strange. Recently, while flying, the radios suddenly went dead (couldn't communicate with the controllers, either to or from) and the autopilot unit went blank and turned off. Some minutes later, they came back on without my help! This first happened while flying a Lancaster over England. But the phenomenum is now happening more often and with more aircraft and in other areas of the world. I have no idea what's causing this. Does anyone have any idea?
But it did bring another question to mind. If this was being caused by some malfunction in the FS9 programming and required either a partial or entire reinstallation of FS9, to what extent would I have to backup the add-ons I've downloaded since forever? Appreciate any guidance to either or both my queations.

I found the answer to the second question in the forum archives which is where I should have looked in the first place. But still looking for some answers to the radio/AP problem.

Double-check your control assignments... maybe you are turning this stuff on/off when you are think you are controlling something else.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, but I wasn't turning anything else off and on, so its not control assignments, and the engines kept running so it wasn't a gas problem. I turned the program off, took Disc 1 out, rebooted my computer, reinserted Disc 1 and restarted FS9. That seems to have solved the problem for the moment.

Double check your Failures are not set above 5%. I was recently flying a 'Fire Fighting' Goose, and all of a sudden, both engines flamed out. I held CTRL+E to try and get them restarted, and they would for a few moments, then out again they went..... did this about 15 to 20 times until i could climb from 2,500 up to 7,000 ... 15nm out of my destination. Then I just "dead stick'ed" it in, dont need engines in a glider to land if you have enough altitude and forward speed, so why do I need them on a "Canadair CL215"????
this was the first time this ever happened to me in the 6 years I've had FS2004!!! Must have been the Failures.
