Bloom is not functioning

So I escaped FSX to go to FS9 to get better framerates and get ENBseries bloom working. Sadly, it still doesn't work.

I have got v0074_g the San Andreas one. I have put the DLL and config in the FS9 main directory. I fire up the sim and nothing. F12, shift F12, control + shift + F12 and any other possible choice of the last 4 'F' buttons does nothing.

Any ideas why it isn't showing up now?

Cheers

You have to check which key assignement is done in the enbseries.ini (check the documentation on Boris website).
You'll also have to check that that same key combo (usually SHIFT+F12) is not assigned to some other action in FS.
Finally, if your video card is not powerfull enough, the bloom might simply not work at all.

I checked about F12 being assigned, but not Shift-F12. Well the thing that always confused me is that I used to have bloom on FSX working just fine and the hardware is exactly the same as it was before. So I will try as you suggested when I get a free moment and see if that cures it.

in FS9 Settings/DISPLAY  ... do you have LENS FLARE checked so that the bloom will show??

Nope, the bloom module is totally independent from any setting in FS (excepted the DX10 preview in FSX, that's the one and only option that would disable the bloom module).

Ah, well those options are on anyway  :-[

Using "shift+z", (or fraps, if you have it) see what your framerates are before and after hitting "shift+F12". If the module is working (even if you don't notice any visual changes) you should see a slight drop in framerates. If you DO see a drop in framerates after activating the bloom, then it may just be a matter of tweaking the .ini.

Though my FPS is rattling around a bit as it is, there appears to be no difference in switching bloom 'on'. It averages at pretty much the same.

dumb question, but what does the README say about installation??

Well the readme is for Grand Theft Auto, but it says to stick the files into the directory where the .exe of the program exists. Which, as far as I can make out, is the FS9 root directory. This reflects Daube's instructions.

The only other thing I can think of doing is updating my nVidia software. May that provoke it to work?

Now that you mention it, I think Harold was having a similar issue, and he updated his DirectX files, and that fixed it. Worth a try.

No matter how I configure the INI file, the bloom effect almost freezes my sim (5 seconds between a key press and the reaction).
Do you think it's my CPU?

EDIT: I've found several (rather old) posts on this and on other forums, of people saying they were able to use the effect, and they also had low end spec CPUs like mine (Harold, for example, has/had a single core PIV). So there must be some other reason... please lend me a hand, I've seen the difference this effect can make and I'm very eager to use it!
Let's start from square one: what's the latest version and what's a working URL to download it (the latest one Daube posted doesn't work)?

Bottom of the page.

http://www.simviation.com/simviation/index.php?type=item&ID=85&page=25

It works in FS9 just fine for me, but I get a 'whited out' screen in FSX with it.
Also, I never 'activate' this with a button push, it just seems to always be on for me. Not sure if this is due to a saved flight config or not.

Specs (in case they matter)
AMD Athlon 64 5400+ dual core 2.8ghz
ATI 1650pro 512mb
2gb Ram
XPpro sp3

This situation reminds me of a certain F-18 VC that works perfect for some people, but others get the black cockpit issue.
Daube knows which one I mean.

;)

In order to work, the bloom module absolutely needs DirectX9 to be completely up-to-date with the various updates from Microsoft.

You'll have to download the DirectX9 runtimes, I guess the filename is something like dxwebsetup.exe. This file is rather small, but it checks the MS site and downloads all of the necessary updates for your computer.

Also, the bloom will not work if the video card is too weak, or if it doesn't have enough video memory onboard, or if the AntiAliasing is set too high.
