Hi everybody,
I've installed the nimrod downloads that had been mentioned on the simviation main page but - they install fine but have effected at least my just flight/captain sim Hercules installations, I didn't check any other aircraft.
When I now select the herc' the main instrument panel is compressed into up the top third of the screen and will not go to its normal full display, cannot be dragged around and resized,

Hi Steve. I note there's several Nimrods posted on this page.
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?type=item&ID=86&page=18If you tell me which one you have I'll be happy to check it out.
What you describe sounds like a common problem with FS9 panels in FSX. I can't think why installing the Nimrod should affect your

Hi Hager,
On this page
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?t ... 86&page=18It was the top 5 packages on that page, it's the fs2004 versions I've installed into fs2004/fs9.
Anything you suggest will be delayed in replying, since moving home I don't have internet at home yet so can only reply when at work.
I did delete all of them due to a bit short of time to experiment.
cheers
Steve

I suspect you didn't install something correctly. For a start I'm downloading the Shared Files package to check it out.

I've downloaded the Shared Files package & the UKMIL Nimrod v2 R Mk.1 to check it out with. The first thing I noticed was that both are auto-installers which I dislike with a vengeance. The main reason for this is that they can cause all sorts of problems if they're not configured or used properly. I extracted both to a Temp folder in my usual way & can find nothing wrong. Providing you direct the install path to your FS9 main directory* you should end up with 3 new folders named UKMIL_Nimrod_Shared, UKMIL Nimrod MR1 SAR v2 & UKMIL Nimrod MR1 v2 in your FS9\Aircraft folder.

*This is the default location of the FS9 main directory.

The UKMIL_Nimrod_Shared folder contains the panel & sound files that all the Nimrod packages are aliased to. I checked the aircraft in FS9 & all works as advertised.
I obviously can't check the Captain Sim Hercules without purchasing it which I have no intention of doing. However, no files or folders were overwritten during the install process & I cannot see how installing the Nimrod can possibly affect any other aircraft. Perhaps someone else can explain it.

Hi Hagar,
All the packages are .exe files and all the nimrod folders appeared in the Aircraft folder and then within fs9 itself on the menues, all it effected was the herc instrument panel- do you want a screen shot, won't reallyhelp but you'll see what I'm getting.

That's what I meant by auto-installers. Providing you directed the install to the correct location everything should work as advertised.

By all means post a shot. I'd rather see one of your FS9\Aircraft folder with the Nimrod packages installed if you can manage it.

Have you tried reloading the Nimrod once you get the odd panel views? It sometimes resets this.
Hope this helps,

Hi Tgibson, hagar,
yes I did reload and still had the same result but now with reinstalling to show Hagar what effect I was getting, it's not happening, the effect I had was the instrument panel was compressed into the top third of the screen but with the control pedestal still normal size, and , if you don't know the herc package, the pedestal is a separate window as in the gps windows fort example. The instrument panel refused to resize and couldn't move it around either.

This is the entry in my Aircraft which I know is correct, and, been doing this a very long time, was in flight sim before microsoft got their hands on it - when it was by sublogic.
Thanks to both of you.
regards
Steve

Does this mean the problem is fixed?

Sounds like I'm trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs.

Hi Hagar,
It's OK, I don't get the aircraft installs wrong, but I just couldn't understand why I couldn't move the panel around plus it's size, Note to self: screen shot every problem!.
My EVVFCX name is going back sometime, was Tail Reg letters of two K23 gliders I used to fly in the early 90's and was on with another before that, was extremely active many years ago online, was founder member of EuropairVA and flight ops for SabenaVa before they asked us to close down - copyright issues etc!
I just wish I had internet at home so I could 'play'.
I've not even had fs2004 online!
I've just not played around with fs2004 as much as I used to do with the older ones, just haven't had the time, only thing I've used is afcad2, I don't know the structure of the .cfg's and what does what.
anyway, I rant on, thanks for the advice.
regards
Steve.

Hi hagar,
This is the result from installing new aircraft, it wasn't just the nimrod package, does it with others, in all cases I have my default flight as being c130 at Sion in Switzerland, also in each case after having installed a new aircraft, I have created and saved a flight with the new aircraft then flown the default flight, if I then manually select the default flight all is OK, so is using ctrl + ; to restart the flight.
How long this problem has been there, I have no idea, I don't normally create a flight striaght off with new aircraft.

It's not causing any perm problems, it's just a new one thats all.

2D panels are made up from different windows.
When you save a flight the position of those windows is saved as part the .flt file.
The windows positions in the default flight are applied to any flight, and any plane, generated from the create-a-flight screen.
If your user-saved default flight has some unusual windows positions that are specific to the airplane used in that default flight it can cause problems when creating a flight with a different plane.
This is why some addons require you to start with the out-of-the-box default flight (C172@KSEA) before switching to their plane.
Hope this helps.
cheers,
Joe

Sorry for my previous post explaining the issue without offering a suggestion.
Guess we could call that "giving half a loaf".
After adding a new plane...
1) start the sim and "select flight"
2) select the default flight(C172@KSEA) listed in "other" and go fly
3) after the flight loads change aircraft to the new plane, and move to another airport if you wish.
4) set the plane up as you wish ie: cold and dark if you want
5) save the flight for that plane
Hope this helps.
cheers,
Joe
