missing coastline

Postby marko891 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:32 am

Hi all, i need a bit of help with this one!

Just took a flight from Palma de Mallorca and found that part of the coastline had changed from a nice sweeping coast to a square one and the breaking waves were about 1/2 a mile inland. Thought i'd gone to Lego Land!

The add ons i am using are FS Global 2008 and FS Scene.

I would guess that one of the scenery files in FS9 has gone corrupt but i dont know which one.

I have also been looking at Scenery upgrades like Ground Effect Pro, Ultimate Terrain Europe and REX.

Will these upgrades possibly correct the problem or is the problem still with FS9 scenery!

I could completely wipe FS9 and start again but if i can repair, that would be great!

Any help please!!!!

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

Sounds like missing coastal water mask(s)..

A way to locate offending default terrain file(s).**

In Afcad, open a stock airport near the problem coastline. In the airport properties window look at the 'From file:' at the bottom of the window. Note the path and file name, and in particular the number string in the AP######.bgl file name. All various terrain file names for this area will have the same number string.

Example: If the problem is near LEPA, the airport is from file ...\Eurw\scenery\AP948170.bgl

The files responsible for coastlines are:

HP######.bgl-the detailed coastal water mask
HL######.bgl-the coastal banks (w/surf if included)

As you say you still have surf, my guess is the HL######.bgl files are ok.

So in your case check ..\Eurw\scenery\ for HP948170.bgl. If it's missing, copy it from the CD.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the quick response. I will try that as soon as i can get to my home pc and will let you know what happens.

I have Aerosoft Balearic Islands installed and does'nt seem to be affecting any other scenery in the region but i will look into those files.

I have only recently started getting hands on with the inner files of FS9 (nothing to do with this problem) but just by reading these forums its amaizing the amount of tweaks and alterations.

i will keep you informed, thanks

Mark ;)

Hi again just reloaded the rogue files and all is now back to how it should be. Thanks all for the advice.

Regards
Mark
