Installing scenery to other than FS9/Scenery or FS9/Addon Scenery

I remember reading somewhere. that scenery does not have to be installed in FS9 Addon Scenery or the main scenery folder. I just can't remember where I read it or exactly how to do it. If this is correct, can an secondary drive be used and how is it done so FS9 will find the files?

Scenery files can be installed anywhere you like.

Even on another computer via a network.

I keep most of my scenery outside the FS9 folder structure.

When you activate them in the Scenery Library you just have to navigate to the correct location.

That being said, there are some addons that use configuration applets that need to be in specific locations. Things like VOZ, Glacier Bay etc.

Your run-of-the-mill addons can be anywhere you like.

Joe

Yep. as far as I know you can put your scenery addons anywhere you like. The sim will remember the path to them when you activate them.  ;)

I can just deactivate each one, move them and reactivate, correct?

You will still have to edit the path with the "Edit area..." button in the Scenery Library.

Note: it is not necessary to de-activate before moving, though FS will tell you there is a "scenery.cfg error" when you re-start FS. Simply click OK to proceed.

If your not comfortable editing the path it might be just as easy to delete the area in the Scenery Library, move it, then add it back.

Hope this helps.

cheers,
Joe

Yeah, that sounds quicker and easier. Thanks Joe.
