Brilliant! You have explained exactly why the reinstall failed to remove the problem. And I'll also follow your suggestion about the video card. Thanks very much indeed for your prompt and very thorough assistance.

I also put together a "Guide" to un-installing and re-installing FS2004 which you might find useful.

Not sure if it is in the library here or not but it is available from this link:

http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=123907

Also - if your problems were related only to settings which are saved in your FS9.cfg file, a re-install was likely not necessary.

Many thanks again. Most valuable advice, which I'll follow. It's always impressive how quickly and authoritively one gets advice from Simviation. Your suggestion about the FS9.CFG file is particularly apt - and a welcome alternative to uninstalling and reinstalling the entire program (plus the need, then, to redo all the various addons: scenery, aircraft, mesh, and the like.)
You've helped me a great deal!

Wizard! I followed your advice, renamed the FS9.cfg file, and opened the program and - voila! - the problem was solved. The beauty part is that this solution obviated the need to redo the half-dozen or so addons (each with it's multi-alpha-numeric code) accumulated over the years.
In addition, I've downloaded your AVSIM article on un- and re-installing the program.
Many thanks again for solving a problem that had dogged me for days.

[color=#000000]If helping others with FS9 problems were like WWII kills, Opa would be an Ace many times over. We are very proud to have him around.

Not that you need it now but for next time, try Revo Uninstaller. It's a free download. Revo gets everything associated with what you are getting rid of. I once used it to uninstall FS9. It found over 700 remnants of the install after I used the default wiper-outer under Control Panel. I was shocked. Only one I use now...
