EZ Scenery Objects?

Do I need to download scenery objects packages in order to use some versions of add-on scenery?  I know that some scenery has the objects included, but do some people create scenery where I need extra objects not included with the package?

Usually the read me will tell you if you need to download anything extra.

But it's still not a bad idea to go ahead and download the major files such as RWY12, Nova Gold and the like.

There is a single file download available that contains almost all of the files used today.

ezoliv33.zip  at Flightsim....sorry..haven't checked the library here.

you treat the "Static Objects Library" in your ADDON SCENERY as any other ADDON SCENERY.  (open Flight sim and activate it in the sim -- reboot FS, then once your sim is open, open EZ SCENERY CREATOR) find the object that you want to place, and then put it in the sim.

when you are finished creating/updating the airport of choice.  Find all the files that you used to create/update the scenery and put them in 1 folder on your desktop (copy/paste)  This will become the STATIC OBJECTS LIBRARY that you will send with your package when you upload it so that everyone else can have the files needed to show the light poles, hangars, taxiway signs, etc etc etc.  See pic below of the folders that I had to make when I made KDVI - Desert View International.  http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/perlf ... ll&q=kdvi+

It is important to first understand the different types of *.bgl files. There are several, however this topic relates to two.

One type is an "object library". It is exactly what it sounds like, a library of objects that can be used by scenery object placement tools. Each object has a unique identifier. This type of *.bgl will typically include an associated texture folder.

There are tons of them floating around in cyberspace and ezoliv33.zip is a collection of most that were available when it was compiled. For these files to work properly they need to be in an active scenery folder.

By themselves these files do not add any objects in the sim. They are simply a warehouse of objects available to scenery designers.

For these objects to show up in the sim a scenery designer will use an object placement tool to create the second type of *.bgl. These *.bgls do not actually contain the objects, they tell the sim to place an object (by use of its unique identifier) at a specific location.

If a "scenery object placement" *.bgl calls for an object from an "object library" that is not in an active scenery folder on your PC, the object will not show up.

most definitely.  Just make 1 folder and name it whatever you want "static object library" and throw all of the other program's static object library (texture) files into it. Just make sure that you activate it like you would any other addon scenery file.

FS9 Settings / Scenery Library / ADD > Static Object Library :: exit and reboot

We posted at the same time, hopefully my first post will answer some of your questions.

Nova, and others like it are not actually objects, but simply a set of textures that can be used by "object libraries".

I keep those sets of textures in the main FS9 texture folder ...FS9\Texture

Some people do keep all object libraries in one folder. Many use the Static Objects folder that gets created when you install the RWY12 program.

I choose to have a seperate folder for each designer, for those that created many libraries. Folks like Sidney Schwartz, Woody Fouts, etc.

I do this for a couple reasons.

Makes updating easier, though this happens less and less as times go by.

There are some object libraries that contain texture files that have the same name that are not the same file. Many designers may include a texture named concrete.bmp, and if you look at them they are different.

By separating my object libraries by designer hopefully their objects will display their textures.

It has been said that my approach is unnecessary and a little AR, might be.

I had this setup before the compilations came out and it works for me.

A final note about RWY12.

At the time of it's release it was cutting edge. Those days are long gone. Much of what is known now, wasn't known then. Because of that you will find many scenery addons that have readme files stating that "RWY12 must be installed for this to work". We now know this to be false.

You do have to have the 3 RWY12 object libraries installed in an active scenery folder, but you do not need to have the program itself installed. Unless you want to use it to create your own scenery.

Compared to what is available today, granted mostly payware, RWY12 is difficult and tedious to work with.

Thanks a lot guys.  Joe, you are great at explaining things so we new guys understand.  You summed it up well in a few sentences and I understand it much better now.

I say I'm a new guy at this, meaning scenery and messing with design and such.  I have been using MSFS since 1988.  I think I had the 3.0 (?).  I recall I could design basic scenery then, but it looked rather cartoonish!  One part of it had an square grid arena area where you could fly a Sopwith Camel and dogfight another a/c. There were only 4 small flying areas; around Chicago south to Bloomington, San Fran terminal area and a couple others I don't remember now.  In between was 2800 miles of flat green space!  :) I was doing this on a Tandy 1000 I think.  I'm glad we are way past this now.

I do look forward to the day when all landclass, mesh, airport scenery for the entire Earth is all in one easy-to-buy package (if ever).

Anyway thanks for the great info.  I can't wait to get started on it.
