ATC FS2004

I wish I could bash them over the head with my L188. 5 or so hours of flying from SEA to ANC and the game forces me to abort my landing because someone can't get their tail off the runway. As I'm trying to respond to their commands for heading and altitude (I needed a say again) they wouldn't shut up giving me 3 sets of commands and someone else 2 and by the time it let me respond my answer number had changed to Cancel IFR Landing. GHAAAAAAA! It screwed up my whole landing and of course trying to reload only screwed it up even more. Man I hate them. Not to mention, even with the ATC volume turned all the way up I can barely hear them.

Sorry, just had to vent. I hate spending that much time on such a long boring flight to have it completely fragged at the last minute by ATC.

The many joys of FS 2004 Air Traffic Control... :-*.....!

Always brings a grin to my face with some of their (and mine) activities... ;D...!

The one joy of the Simulator is that you can completely ignore them....and carry on in your own sweet way...(which is what I often do).... ;)...!

"...what do you mean?...Airport Closed!... :o....go away!..."..... ;D....!

As a former (real life) Anchorage Tower controller, I never talk to them - no delays, always number one  :).

I must admit, I do rather like the 2-way Air Traffic Control conversations in FS 2004...
At least they are always crystal clear, with no background "mush"...

..and the Text of the messages always appearing on the windscreen in front of me is a great way of making sure that both of us fully understood the instructions... ;)... ;)...

.....(If only it was like that in real life!)..... ;D...!

After listening to that audio of the gang at LHR re. the BA777 accident, I've got to say they're a class act - couldn't ask for better.

The thing I could never get used to, during my infrequent excursions aloft, is the SUDDEN burst of chatter in my David Clark headphones, followed by complete silence, without any prior warning, which always takes me by surprise to the extent that I am never quite sure what was said!.... :o...!
..."Would you please repeat the last transmission".... :-[.....will be the inscription on my Grave Stone!... ;D....!

In a normal conversation, you get to hear the intake of breath, which indicates that the person is going to speak to you...so you are ready to listen...
Up in the air, its just a sudden explosion in your Headphones... :o...!
..."What the heck was that!"... ;D...!

Paul...Headphones also make my ears uncomfortably hot!... :-[... ;D... ;D...!
...and the noise-cancelling effect makes me go deaf for a while when back on terra-firma!

I hear you mate.  I try and come in as slow as I possible can if there's an aircraft on the runway so that he can get out of the way!

I'm always prepared for a go around if I have to.

If I've done a couple of go-arounds and still can't get on the ground, I cancel the IFR and then request a full-stop landing.  For some reason, the tower will hold all depatures and wave off any aircraft on approach so that I get a priority landing! 8-)

Normally, as the pilot, you initiate the conversation i.e "I'd like some of your hot-cross buns"- better yet "Anchorage Tower Cessna Golf Bravo November (can't see the rest) five southeast, inbound with 'Whiskey' request full stop.

I've definitely noticed some approaches are worse than others with ATC in 2004.

Of course recently I've been flying helicopters, so I'll just monitor the tower freq without talking and fly straight into the parking/ramp area!  :D

I'll still use flight following when enroute VFR, and will fly down the runway approach path when IFR, but from there it stops.

Hello
I don't know if you have Editvoicepak or not,but you can use Evp to accelerate the very slow delivery of default ATC at least then it gets through all those conversations quicker thus avoiding the the IFR flight plan canceled message.
By the way you do know that even if you do get your IFR plan canceled you can reopen it straight away whilst still airborne.Just make sure when the option to move the aircraft to the airport comes up say no! otherwise the the flt will restart from the beginning. When you next open the ATC window you should see an option to request ifr clearance from the controller and you should be able to proceed as before.
Hope that makes some sense. If you know all this stuff anyway then ignore.
cheers Andy  :)

if you do get your IFR plan canceled:)
Only the pilot can cancel IFR - ATC is not allowed.  Many's the time I wished  :).
