Something I've never had happen before

I have been simming for years, and using FS9 since it first came out.  Last night while on short final into DSM, ATC changed runways and cleared an aircraft to take off directly into me.  They then issued me a go around, and I landed from the other direction.  I've never seen an airport change runway directions on FS9, no matter what they winds are doing.

Sounds like a cool challenge! I was a passenger in a Dash 8 when the pilot had to fly to the opposite runway on approach, but it certainly wasn't at short finals!  :o

Last night I was flying a Convair 580 from College Station, TX to Rowsell, NM and ATC cleared a Dash 8 at the same time they cleared me. The Dash 8 cut in front of me (within 100ft) >:( and almost hit me then landed just one mile ahead of me and ATC told me to go around. I was on an ILS approach after an IFR flight. It was even harder because the settings for the aircraft for some reason have the trim tabs super sensitive. The slightest of clicks on my joystick caused the trim tab to jump several points. It made it very difficult to maintain alt.

Now that happens frequently since FS ATC does not provide separation between aircraft.  I just had never seen them actually change runways, usually it seems they stick with whatever runway they are using.

With FS, usually which ever aircraft is cleared first gets to land. If the other plane was cleared first, they may have told you to go around, even if the other one was several miles behind you. It has happened to me several times.  ;)

Hi Sir Puma,

Regarding your trim tab control, does it do this with all aircraft with trims?

If so checkout the joystick button assignments for control surfaces and check that the repeat settings are at minimum, it's the only way you can be precise with your trim setting for your current power setting.
