[color=#000000]I don't think it will solve your problems, but you can speed up exit. If you are going to close FS, instead of hitting escape to go back to create flight screen, hit control + c to immediately close FS. I hope you find a solution, as I have the same problem, at least part of it. Loading of FS is extremely slow on both my installs. Once I get to the create flight screen, everything seems fine. But if I hit escape to end the flight, it is also slow getting back to the create flight screen.
Good luck.

It sounds as if you did not "clean up" after the un-install.

Only those items which were installed from the disks will be removed by the FS2004 un-install routine.

Many items are therefore "left over" - such as the FS9.cfg file which is not created until you run the sim the first time - and they must be manually deleted.

After an un-install search your HD very carefully (enable show hidden files and folders) and delete whatever was left behind that relates to FS2004.

Also, the more airplanes you have installed, the longer it takes to get to the 'create a flight' screen.

There's a massive difference in loading time when you've got a few hundred planes installed compared with just having the defaults only. ;)

Not sure if the same is true with scenery addons, but if it is, that would also drag out loading time if you've got a lot of scenery installed.

But that's the irony.

Has something on your system changed???? like, have you downloaded and installed some thing else, maybe not even FS related???

Has your 'scan' software changed the time it starts it scan (mine did, changed to every time i started the PC, very anoying and slowed everything down).

Is Windows download and updating stuff on its own, automatically and thus slowing you down??

Just a few things i would check and all easy fixes.

If all else fails, I guess the last resort may be to restore your system back to a point when you KNOW this was NOT happening.

Good luck.

I don't think anything has corrupted FS9 on your machine so much as something is running in the background, hogging resources. Whatever it is, you can probably afford to at least set it so it is not starting up automatically.
As for the video card, if you haven't already, make sure it shows up in Settings>Display>Hardware.
