...make sure the Flight Sim isn't running in the background whilst you are trying to alter the .cfg File!

Close down the Sim first.....then open the .cfg File and do the alterations ;)...!

(Don't forget to back-up the original File)...;)...!

The only edits I have been able to save while FS2004 is running is to panel.cfg files.  That is a a great time saver!!

The sim must be shut down before edits to the aircraft.cfg and/or the FS9.cfg file will be saved.

At least that is my experience using FS2004 with XP.   ;)

And if you do a "save as", you can inadvertantly end up changing the nature of the file to something other than the plain txt format.  Then it will not work.

Are you running Vista? Vista's security 'protects' .cfg  and other files that are within the ..\Program Files\.. folder.

This is hearsay as I run XP which doesn't impose such 'nonsense'....  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Right click on your Notepad shortcut and you should find an option to run as administrator. From Notepad, open the .cfg file, edit and save.

Another method some use is to move the .cfg file to your desktop, edit and then move the file back.

As always, back up any file(s) before editing.

Thanks for all your advice guys, you're all very helpful.

If you're using Vista try dave3cu's second suggestion. Paste the CFG file to your desktop before opening it in Notepad for editing. Then exit Notepad, saving changes when prompted, before pasting the file back where it came from.

Thought so. Editing files on your desktop should work. Please try it.

In Windows Explorer, highlight your ..\FS9 folder, right-click, and edit the Permissions to allow "Full Access" with "Administrator Rights."

If you ever decide to completely reinstall FS9, do yourself a HUGE favor and do NOT install it to the default \Program Files location!

Instead, install FS9 to its own, unique folder such as:

C:\FS9

or even D:\FS9 if you have a second hard drive or partition...
