High-res textures, and IFR Charts

Postby Phoenix21 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:07 pm

Hey folks, I'm new to this site and this sim.

I had FS2002 and downloaded some high-res textures, I think they covered the entire world with photo-real scenery. I was wondering if there was anything like this for FS2004. I searched but wasn't even able to find the one that I had before. I would like to be able to update the scenery in the game to something much more realistic.

Also, does anyone know of any websites where I can get free IFR charts? I would really like to practice my IFR flying since I am not good at it at all. Thanks.

For the first part of your question, I believe you might be referring to the Global Terrain Mesh.

For the second part, try AirNav.  Every available chart in the world is there somewhere.

Personally, if you are a low and slow, GA Pilot, I would steer well clear of "Photo Realistic Scenery".....Fine, looking down at 30,000 Feet ASL in a Jet Liner...but naff at ground level in your Piper Cub!

Like Travis says..."Global Scenery Mesh" is the way to go. It corrects/improves the elevation levels of the Default Scenery...
...."Mountains" become Mountains, and "Valleys" become Valleys!... :)...!

Lots of various add-ons available to improve your Default FS 2004 Scenery....enjoy searching for them...;)...!

Paul..G-BPLF..FS 2004...and a fairly realistic Sim World!...;)... ;D...!

Thanks guys. I don't remember those textures specifically, but I'll take your word that it's the one that I need. It probably was the one I had anyway, I just don't remember it. I'm d/ling and installing now.

Thanks for the link to the AirNav site. That's exactly what I need. My ILS flights suck a lot, I can't figure out how to do it. I usually try to fly direct routes VFR. Thanks much :-)

If I were you, I'd start out flying VFR routes from VOR to VOR.  Use the kneeboard to set your NAV1 and 2 freqs.  Once you get used to that, then move up to IFR flights.  Also do Google searches for "Flight Simulator IFR Tutorial" or something similar.
