FS2004 New Aircraft

I just upgraded my FS from FSX to FS2004, and I can't figure out how to add new aircraft frames, i.e. A330, A340, and the A380?  Do I simply upload aircraft textures and the aircraft instrument panel? or, are there basic airframes like they have for FSX?  Thanks in advance for any help.

You will first need to download an aircraft addon file from SimV's file library, located here:
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/

Once you find the file that you want, download it, and unzip it with a software program like Winzip or 7-zip. A complete aircraft package should include a the following folders in a main folder for the aircraft which lists the name of the aircraft:

Main folder:

subfolders-:
model
panel
texture (if multiple textures, more folders such as texture.1, texture.2, etc.)
sound

In short, FS2004 aircraft need to have a basic airframe (model) folder located in the addon aircraft's folder for a plane to show up. The textures, and any addon textures, must also be compatible with that author's work.

Simply loading in a folder full of textures and a panel will not result in a flyable aircraft.

I gave up on FSX.  I bought a new computer with all the upgrades, and FSX will not install all the files it needs to run.  I was like, screw this, and bought FS2004, and was flying 10 minutes after I opened the box.  Good riddance FSX, and R.I.P.

in FSX.  after you download an aircraft, it would generally go to SIMOBJECTS / AIRCRAFT / (aircraft name here)

In FS9..... there is NO "SIMOBJECTS" folder.  you download your craft of choice, unzip it using winzip or similar program (*to prefferabaly a TEMPORARY folder of any name*).  Then you Place the "aircraft name" folder inside the FS9/AIRCRAFT folder.  gauges to gauges, effects to effects, modules to modules, etc etc etc.

Welcome to the Wonderful "SIMPLE" World of Flight Sim 9.

oh, by the way, do not forget to get the 9.1 update here::: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Actually, aircraft gauge files work perfectly fine by placing them in the aircraft's panel folder.

Fascinating discussion re FS2004 vs FSX. Being completely new to F sim, I bought X originally and  immediately had problems downloading. The expert computer guru I called told me to get 2004 and forget X. The only fault I find with 2004 is the rather primitive default scenery. I haven't yet added any scenery except for the pay Ground Environment. This is an improvement but not a significant one. I guess with experience I'll be able to add more realistic scenery. I live in Santa Barbara and I chuckle at the default 2004 scenery for our airport. It looks like it might be located in the Gobi desert.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I say again - take a look at www.blueskyscenery.com.

Fozzer: Those oil platforms you mention are taboo to most who live here. They are currently idle and are used to grow commercial mussels  now.  I think you mentioned that you've also flown to the channel islands here? I use the Guersney field to practice bad weather landings. I am puzzled by what seems to be a waterfall coming out of a cliff on the island. Is that a landmark, would you know?  Of course, the Brits had channel islands before we did so we yanks ought to call them "New Channel Islands" a la "New York" or "New London".
