Empty harddrive

Hello lads,

If I would install FS9 on a totally separate hdd with nothing else on it, would it improve the performance of FS9? All other programs would be on C:. FS would be on D:.

Is this a second drive or a partition?

A second internal drive of 40Gb.

...dunno, Crash...

I would have thought that after all the FS Data has been loaded into your on-board Memory, the actual Sim would be sharing Windows, along with everything else, loaded off of your C Drive?

If you have sufficient Memory installed, everything will be running from there...not the Hard Drives?

P.S. ..once everything has been loaded into Memory, my Hard Drive light rarely comes on...;)...!

The only advantage I can see....If your main C Drive crashes, you still have all the FS Data stored on the Spare, Second Drive?

Win XP Pro....2.3 GB of Memory.

Thanks for the reply, Paul. You might be right. Will try it anyhow to see if it does improve a bit. I don't have any problems with it now except for a very long loading time.

Yes. It will also make maintenance easier...

Contrary to the above, not everything gets loaded into memory. Scenery for example is only "loaded on demand," with the no-longer needed scenery being flushed from memory.

More importantly though, if you ever need to wipe your C drive and reinstall your operating system, you won't loose your FS9 installation!  8-)

If you can live without "Extended Textures" your load time should decrease.
