Two Quick Questions

Hi everyone.

I have recently gotten into flight simulator and have got the hang of quite a lot of things now, however two things are confusing me. The first is flight levels. Earlier today I was told by ATC to "Expedite your climb to FL190". I think that this means something like (190 x 100) feet but I am not sure. Can someone please clear this up for me.

The other is the auto pilot. Now I know how to use the auto pilot (I can set it to a certain heading, course, altitude e.t.c) but for something reason whenever I disengage the AP the aircraft will suddenly veer in a certain direction, usually up. Anyone know why and how I can stop this?

FL190 would be 19,000 feet.
As for the AP, you need to trim the aircraft correctly so it is straight and level before activating the AP

Flight Levels begin at 18000, where the airways are called Jet Routes.

Revert back to level flight, and re trim the aircraft...(Elevator)...which will/may have been displaced by the Autopilot......!

Always re trim after switching the Autopilot off!

It's a shame that the Cessna 152 Trainer wasn't included as Default in the Flight Sims...

...but the next best thing is the Default Cessna 172 (Tricycle!), complete with a very nice, easy to understand, Bendix-King Radio Stack, and a full set of Navigation Instruments for learning Instrument Navigation... ...!

I just wish more new, wannabee Passenger Jet Pilots completed their training on it first!.... ...!

Amen to that on the training Paul.  Started in a Cessna myself - a 140, just like a 150 but with the nosewheel in the back.

Also be aware that you can easily set up a shortcut on your Desktop to the Learning Center so you can refer to at anytime without having to startup FS2004.

Just Paste the following line (be sure you get all of it) into the "target" box when you are creating your new shortcut:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\FSweb\frameset_ingame_help.htm

That assumes a default installation location on your C drive - if different, edit the path accordingly.

Then name the shortcut something like "Shortcut to FS2004 Help Section"

I have used this "trick" for several years and find answers to many basic questions in this resource.
