Red brake sign..

Postby gypsymoth » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:56 am

How you I get rid of it?   I've searched FS9 cfg but can't an entry.  Just wonder if I have to write something to stop it showing??!!

I'm rather grateful for the Handbrake warning when I'm dragging my stationary, squealing, smoking Tyres down the runway, in the vain hope of getting airborne before I hit the bloody Trees at the end of the runway!... ;D... ;D... ;D....!

Paul....G-BPLF...FS 2004...and a new set of Brake Pads... 8-)...!

Found a pretty complete answer a few weeks ago, gypsymoth - I got sick of editing them out of my videos, expect that you have too!

Go to http://library.avsim.net/ and search 'brake messages.' A lady called Julie Rhodes has put two neat downloads on there. One of them (the 'lite' version!) just removes the most annoying ones; the later version scrubs almost all of them.

Both work by replacing your 'language.dll' file. A neat product because you can back up your original file before you try the new one, in case you change your mind!

On reflection I went for the 'nuclear option,' the 'scrub 'em ALL' approach. Must admit that I haven't missed them a bit........ I don't need the game to TELL me I'm stalling etc.!

Don't even need it to tell me the brakes are on, Fozzer - if the aeroplane doesn't move, they're on.....! :)

LOL.... ;D..!

I must admit I do find it comforting for confirmation that my handbrake is safely on, when my Aircraft is standing in front of the Fuel Pumps....

...and preventing my PT6 Turbine-engined Aeroplanes from annoyingly creeping slowly forward at tick-over revs, flattening the Fuel Pump Attendant, and sending the Airport up in flames!....

I like to have the message - except when recording (I use the message kill version of the laguage.dll for that too) - but for "normal" flying I made another edit which abbreviates the messages so they are not so intrusive.

Thanks for info.  I asked because I put SHOW_BRAKE_MESSAGE=0 under SYSCLOCK but I still get the wretched message!!    It saves alright & FS9 isn't running so........I'll try the files you mention & get back with results  :-/

Does eliminating the red banner also eliminate the need to press 'period' before you open the throttle?

Opa - funny you should say that but I didn't edit the text file!!  So - I've repeated my search this morning to AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9 with an FS9 CFG file in it.  I've made a copy & then a shortcut, & popped the brake message in & it works.  I did this yesterday too.  Odd it didn't work then.

Thanks for all the help & pointers to those editing files.
