Sluggish 747 steering.

I've just got the Project Opensky - Boeing 747-400V4 Virgin Atlantic NC and it steers as if the nose wheel tyres are flat.  The default 747 is a dream by comparison.  I've read all the steering stuff on the Posky site & have even moved the CofG to be over the nose wheel to no effect.  I don't have problems with any other aircraft.  I'd appreciate some help on this one.  Can I change something in the aircraft cfg to help? or.....?
Thanks.

Most default aircraft are anything BUT realistic...... so it is likely not a good thing to compare them to anything.

Is it possible that the Posky one is far more realistic?  After all, you have a lot of tons of aircraft that exhibits a LOT of inertia.  On the ground it ain't gonna' turn on a dime, stop on a dime, or start moving quickly.

best,

Even taking into account that this is simulation, the nose of the posky 747 only deviates by a foot or two to either side.  I've watched plenty of aircraft moving at airports & if they moved like this one they'd be in big trouble.    Posky's web site said their aircraft had the CofG toward the back, so I moved this one to over the nose wheel & it never made a blind bit of difference.   I was hoping I could edit the aircraft cfg to change things....?

Rather than mess around with the CG that will probably affect the flying characteristics I would try tweaking the steering angle in the [contact_points] section. Reduce the angle rather than increase it. I note the Posky version is 80 degrees compared with the default 747 at 70.

Thanks Hagar, I'll try that.  Their facts section suggested moving the CofG forward to get more weight over the nose wheel, so I did.  Didn't work.
I'll try your tip!'

I had a brief tweaking session without any luck. Definitely something not quite right there somewhere. I note the centre main wheels also steer.

PS. I think that's the answer. Try removing the negative value of the steering angle for points 1 and 2. 15 degrees seems to work.

I've looked at the nose wheel & see that it's not pointing forwards but towards the left wing (cockpit view) & is up to the axle in the runway, so as I don't know what to change I left it.  Don't want to muck things up & make it worse (as if)

Try this. You can always go back to the original CFG if it doesn't work.

point.0 = 1.000,

Thanks Hagar......I had another look at the posky FAQ & this problem could be due to missing xlm files.  I've deleted this aircraft as it wouldn't work but I'll have another look at it & get back to you.   It might just be also that I have a corrupted download - I remember loosing internet connection yesterday for a second or two but am not sure if I was downloading this 747 at the time.  Phew  :-?

My tweak might not be perfect but it considerably improved the ground steering. Shame you weren't prepared to at least give it a try.

I doubt that. If your download was corrupt it wouldn't work at all.

PS. You're probably right about a missing file. There's definitely something wrong with the animation on the nosewheels & rudder.

Yes - there was an updae file I didn't know about.  It steers quite well now.  Thanks for your help.

Update your FDE to version 9.7 Revision D. Seems to rectify many steering issues I had previously noticed with the models.
