Hi everyone! Just wanted to touch base and say how great it is to have a sim forum like this. I hope that I can get some advice about settings on FS 2004. My system is not new but it could be worse. System is a Compaq Presario and OS is XP Home SP3. Processor is AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 1.0GB RAM. Graphics Card is NVIDIA GeForce 2MX. When I run FS 2004 the scenery is blotchy and cockpit views are lousy. Can anyone give advice on settings for FS. I didn't purchase Deluxe addition so I don't have a manual. Wanted to add 2.0GB RAM but motherboard only holds 1.0GB. Should I replace Graphics card? If so could some one please suggest cards that deliver performance and quailty. I just want cyrstal clear detail, the more the better. Any help? Thanks!! :-?

Well from what you say I am not sure if I would waste the money on a new video card with only 1 gig ram it would not help a whole lot.
I would suggest you look into a newer system. Mind you now That does not mean you need to rob a bank. ;)
My system is by far state of the art

i would agree with Gary ...with your system you will be a bit better with fs 2002...my experence with widsows is windows love R.A.M. the more you have the better you will be ..of corse a higher end video card with ram and a good mother board will do you well with that R.A.M. ...my system was built for the sim(2004) and im getting 65 to 100 pluse fps with the sligers turned up ..fs2002 would be better if u can find it....

Hi toten44,

I will chime in with my two cents and you can take it for what it's worth.  First of all, I do not recommend Tiger Direct as a on-line merchant.  I have personal experience dealing with these scumbags.  If you ever have to deal with a return or exchange, their customer service is absolutely piss poor.  There's no other word to describe their outfit.  I see people recommending these guys on the internet as if they have some "special" bargains.  I have some news flash for you -- Tiger Direct is not the only game in town when it comes to finding good bargains on computer products.

I speak from both a PC technician and consumer point of view and I can rattle off atleast 2 other good alternatives (merchants) that has good customer service support and competitive prices.  New Egg and ZipZoom Fly are two of them.  I've bought several computer parts from New Egg and they have first-class customer service without a doubt.  Now as soon as I post this, I'm sure we'll see others who post comments that they have had positive experience with Tiger Direct but I would argue that the those lucky individuals are in the fortunate (slim) minority and definitely should count themselves as lucky that they haven't been burned by Tiger Direct.  Their reseller ratings reflect their poor performance.

As to whether you should upgrade or buy a new computer, please post the exact model number of your Compaq computer.  If you have a motherboard with a PCI-express slot, upgrading the video card would be both a prudent and cost effective decision. (versus junking the old one and buying a new PC).  Personally, I feel that 1 GB of RAM is sufficient to run FS 2004 as long as you have a good video card that can handle the graphics.  Certainly, upgrading your memory would add a nice performance boost.  RAM prices have been at an all time low and depending on how much your motherboard can hold, adding an additional 1 GB would be a nice upgrade.

Again, since I do not know the exact model # of your PC, I cannot recommend specifics at this point.  Good luck!
