Thought maybe sound pcb.uninstalled old, with know good pcb & s.w....

Sound bd. ok playing music or cd's.
Tried everything i know,ran spy/malware,virus, reg clean,disc,defrag,etc.

Wide open for any/all suggestions or fixes.

Did you install anything on the pc since you last used fs9?
Did you try to reinstall sound and video drivers?
Did you try to use system restore?
For fs9 and cfs3 have that behavior something changed.Or a install of something or any update you made, since you already checked for spy/virus.Try to run DXDIAG also to see if it pass all tests

I would try those.
Hope it helped.
tell us what happen ;)

757200ba,

Ran all those,updated drivers.
Trying to recall new installs...looks like AVG8.5,Erunt,Belarc Adviser, maybe spybot.

New twist!   when sound turned off on fs9/cfs2,3, frame rates go back to 15-20fps.(what it was).

Some crazy bug or virus..nothing shows up!Any new ideas?

Turn down hardware acceleration to Basic.
Start - Run - dxdiag - Sound tab.

Good.
Well i don't like to promote but get another anti-virus (i know many people will kill me).But i used that one before and that "eats" system resources.
Another thing you can do is del your fs9 config so another can be created.
and the option of reinstall fs9 and cfs3 must be considered to.

Ran dxdiag: clk'd on sound...message came up:"you may have problem accessing direct input last time program was used.want to bypass?
Bypassed ,went to "more help" system >components>sound dev.

No sound bd. listed, only "unimodem half duplev audio dev."
Went to Storage>"problem dev."

to my untrained eye, looks like (1) your sound card has died... and (2) those 512mb of Ram need to be upgraded... badly!! if your sound card was not messed up, I would Guarantee that you would notice your FPS get higher if you had at least 1Gig of RAM.

But I would try to download new drivers for your sound card (or if you cant get drivers..... or they dont seem to fix the problem) you may have to get a new one.

If you dont mind.... could you please tell us what is listed under (assuming you have Windows XP) START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM INFORMATION >> Componets > Sound Device

(right click on each line, and press CTRL + C to copy, then come paste it back in here for us, please)

I went to system info previously,my reply to joe60, only sound dev. listed is:Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device .
Going to>control panel>sound&audio>hardware>list:
*uinmodem half dupex,etc.
*creative sblive  gamesport
"Both enabled & devices working properly."
Startup keeps listing "new hardware found,SB Live WDM"
System is not recognizing SB live bd.(previously removed & reinstalled)
How do i get to do this?

Finally solved problem!!!!
I think i went looking for more problems than i had ...anyway, i went to creative web site looking for fixes or whatever for older sb live sound bds.Found a  "driver update & enhancement" download.....installed and problem magically vanished! Everything back to normal.

Motto to story...live & learn & persistence pays off.

Thanks all you guys for your inputs.
