Supersonic DC-8

Recently I downloaded an add on of a DC8 cargo plane from this website (it can be found at the very bottom of this page: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets81.htm) and in the middle of one of my flights i noticed peculiar behavior. First and foremost, let me say that i am not a very realistic simulator pilot; i like to take long flights but i don't have the patience for them, so i set the autopilot to a gps route, and i fly at full throttle, overspeed throughout most of the flight, and often leave the computer while the plane flies. So in doing this the other day, i come back to the computer to see that my engines had flamed out-and this was only 20 minutes after making a stop to get fuel (i checked the gauges, they all read full) and now all the fuel gauges read empty. i was baffled to say the least. So today, during another flight on this particular aircraft, i am at 30000 feet and descend to 28000 feet. I was flying at around 560mph. But upon reaching 28000, after a small expected increase in airspeed, the airspeed indicator shows that my speed was still climbing.....600,650,700, all the way until it reached the maximum that it could indicate of 999, where the numbers behind it kept turning, showing still increasing airspeed. i immediately thought something had to be wrong with the gauge(i thought this because it already wasn't functioning correctly...its lowest speed is 45mph, which is what it shows when im parked on the ground...it doesn't start showing my airspeed until it is above 45mph). it surely wasn't possible that this plane could reach such speeds. so i check the map, and find out my current airspeed was 1974 mph....i had never even reached such speeds in an SR71 Blackbird add-on. i was stunned, but i continued flying, because it didn't look as though i could be traveling that fast. all was normal until the plane became unsteady, suddenly pitching up and gaining 300 feet and then the autopilot correcting it.....and seconds later i heard all four engines shut down. I then quickly glance at the fuel gauges and they all read zero. in previous flights i had taken, i made it 2000 miles and still had fuel to spare (at a more reasonable airspeed)....this flight the fuel lasted for a mere 300 hundred miles before running out. being so confused about this, i redid everything exactly as i did before in a new flight, this time watching the fuel gauge. and at the time that the planes airspeed starts its enormous increase, the fuel starts going very very very very fast. and as the 2 main tanks are about to hit zero, the plane pitches up again (i assume from the very fast speed and very light weight)and the autopilot corrects it....and then as before, flame out! It was as if the plane was burning the fuel at a rate 100x faster than normal, causing extremely high thrust, thus extremely high speed.
Has anyone every experienced this before? I just have no idea what to make of it!

And just a side note, i have been flying like this (full throttle/overspeed) for a long time in alot of different planes, and this has never happened before

If anyone has any answers please let me know, it would be much appreciated!

Well, Daniel, I can understand you getting bored on long flights, but I don't think that flying at full throttle all the time is the best, or most realistic, way to get round this problem.       May I suggest you try using the simulation rate (time compression) facility in FS9.       Get yourself established at normal cruise conditions, and then use simulation rate adjustment to speed up your flight.       At 16 times simulation rate, you'll get to where you're going in a real hurry.

To get there instantly why not take off & fly for as long as you want to then go into Map, drag the aircraft near to your desitination & resume your flight with the prospect of that perfect landing?  It works for me  ::)

Reminds me of a old Twilight Zone episode ;D

Oh yeah, welcome to Simviation :)

I have reached speeds of well over 3000 KIAS by going up to FL5000 (i know its a bit high... but for the sake of fun). NO autopilot, sweep the wings, dive almost straight down at FULL THROTTLE ... bat out of h.e.ll.... and then level off around 500 if you can hold it to that altitude and TRY to hold on to it cause it will just shake itself apart at the rivets, but the engines will never shut off.

Just try it, its fun.  zipping along the ground at over Mach 3 in an F14. lol.  :o 8-)
