Ground and Weather!

Hi guys! I'm new here so I just wanted to ask a couple of questions to those FS9 veterans.
I have a problem with ground textures. Whenever I switch views using the numpad or the hat switch on the joystick the ground textures take like half a second or less to load so what you get to see is a large empty white or purple area it depends on the time of the day. It's quite annoying. I already tried changing the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 value but still no luck. Hope you guys can help me with this one.
Oh! by the way do you know any good cloud replacements I could use to improve performance during bad weather conditions?
Thanks in advance

A half second or less to load is not bad, it does take time to load textures sometimes, depending on you settings and computer's power.

Does this happen to you? I know it is not that bad could be worse but I just want to know if there's actually a way to completely get rid of it. Like which settings should I lower or how to config the FS9.cfg file.
Hope there's a solution. Thanks

I occasionally get "the problem" when switching to my side views from the Cockpit, but once the side view scenery had loaded into memory for each view, there is no longer a delay, switching the views is then instant.

Make sure you have sufficient RAM installed, (2MB or more), and that the Sim is loading from RAM, and not spooling from the CD as you fly!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004.... 8-)...!

P.S...."Bad Weather conditions?"....you shouldn't be flying...trust me!

Yes, that's what happens to me! Although this problem comes back again if I spend too much time looking through the airplane's windshield. But now I see it seems to be a common issue so I guess I'll just try to ignore it.
Oh and by "bad weather conditions" I meant like very cloudy skies.

I do find that to be common, there is simply so much going on in FS the RAM gets full and the textures must be reloaded.  I wouldn't worry about, it still happens, even on my quad core 64bit system with 8 gigs of RAM.

As mentioned above, having enough RAM can definitely make a difference.

When I had your problem a few years ago, I realized that my hard drive hadn't been defragged in some time. That made a significant difference.

Another issue that can cause the same problem will be an add-on aircraft that has very detailed textures. When switching views, the aircraft textures will be gray for a time (with some purple ground textures) until the video card can get all textures repainted.

Hope this helps.

JerryH

lalowaca,

HI and welcome to SimV.

For new "soft impact" clouds, one option is the payware Flight Environment.
