ATC Pilot Voice Missing

Postby Jersey Flyer » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:39 pm

Man, I've been running flight simulator for quite a while.
BUT, lately, I've been flying online, on the IVAO network.

Last night, I wanted to just do a good old' single player IFR flight. When I  went to contact ATC, I was able to bring up the menu, but there was no pilot voice or ATC voice at all. It did not display the message on  the ATC window either. (Example: Options - Request Taxi Clearance), - after I would request taxi clearance, there was no message, no voice, only a new list of options, beginning with Acknowledge taxi clearence. I took a loot at my options, and when I went to go select a pilots voice, there was not anything there for me to select, it was just empty. Is this weird? Help please?  :o

This might indicate that the 'voice pack' file is missing, or maybe renamed. Look in the..\Flight Simulator 9\Sound\.. for the 'USEnglishBig.gvp' file. (or USEnglishSmall.gvp depending on whether you selected the 10 voice or 3 voice pack at install. There should be 2 files with the .gvp extension)

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

If your sim is installed to the default location, the file is installed to:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Sound\...

If you did a full install the file name is 'USEnglishBig.gvp'

If the file is missing you can copy it from CD#2\MSGAME5.cab.

I Really think my sound files are messed up.. because when I go to that location, I just get all these sound sub folders for my payware addons, so all I would have to do is run Disk 2 of FS and retreve the .cab file?

You don't 'run' disc #2, you simply put it in the drive. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the drive. If you have XP or Vista, just double click on the MSGAME5.cab filename and it will expand, showing the content file(s).

Right click on the 'USEnglishBig.gvp' file name and select copy. Now navigate to your ...\Flight Simulator 9\Sound\ folder. Right click on the Sound folder and select paste. The file will be placed in the folder.

Whenever it is desireable to restore files from the install disks, these resources will be of help:

http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/faq001.html

It shows where everything is on your install disks and how extract just what you need.

I also recommend fs9cddir.zip - compiled by Brian Collins (not sure if it is in the library here, but you can find it at Avsim or Flightsim for sure)

This is an Excel format listing of all the files on your install disks. A great resource to keep handy.

Good luck!
