Hi all, new to the forum. Been a flight simmer since Fs2004 and have collected quite a few add ons along the way. No has come the time to purchase a new faster PC. The new PC will come with Vista and would like to know whether it is worth upgrading all of my software to FSX or staying with FS2004.

Will FS2004 run on Vista? (Sorry if this question has already been answered elsewhere on this forum)

I look forward to your valueable advice.

Many thanks
Mark :o

This thread should probably overlap into the hardware forum too..

As for, "Is it worth upgrading to FSX ?"

Hi

It might be worth the trouble to go to some tech site and ask for recommendations for a new build. Let them know how much you want to spend and that you want a system that will run 'new' games well.

As mentioned, you can probably do that here in the hardware forum.
Anyway, you will probably come out way ahead doing this than to buy something based on a salesmans advice. Maybe even save a few bucks too. Right now you can build a powerful gaming system for around a grand or so (US$).

Good luck :)

Yes, FSX is a whole new thing. It also needs better system specs, but myself, I can run it at about 18-25 FPS (And that's because I locked it at 25 FPS) with both Scenery and Autogen on "Dense" (Tried Autogen on Very Dense, that was ok as well, but some lower frames, so I turned it down in case I was gonna fly in big cities) and the mesh and other things on full.

And as you questioned, FS2004 DOES work with Windows Vista. I used it for about a month before I got my FSX working.

And did I mention this was a laptop? Can't believe all the stuff I heard about FSX not being usable on laptops when I can play it on three times better graphics and just the same frames as my old computer with everything on Minimal. My old one was a desktop too. ::)
