I installed FS9 in Vista 64 bit but it won't run.
I checked the properties & there was no compatibility for Vista 64 bit.   It worked OK yesterday....umm  :-/     Any ideas?

Hmm...not sure that FS9 will take very well with 64-bit Vista, although I have no personal experience with Vista 64-bit.
Have you Googled it?

I asked here before getting Vista & was told it was OK for FS9!!    :-?
With lots of mucking around I now have it going but it's not 100%    8-)
I'll try a Microsoft site to see if I can get help.

Weird. I get my FS9 working on Vista, but I have the 32-bit. Wonder what huge differences there can be between Vista 32- and 64-bit to make FS9 unavailable on Vista 64-bit. :o

Well done Microsoft, not making your own games fully capable with your newest OS ;D

Let's think this through some.........

XP is being discontinued from active sales and all you can get is Vista.

Vista 32 is a bit of a dog, and the "future" is 64 bit anyway.

FSX won't run well on anything but cutting edge hardware and maybe sales are lagging a bit as lots of people stick with fs2004.

Fs2004 won't run well on Vista 64.

Hum...... great strategy to sell not only copies of Vista 64 but ALSO copies of FSX.

Brilliant!

I understand why you are saying that but Flight Simulator 2004 is an End Of Life product. Not for me - I still fly in FS9 and a lot of people here do too - but Microsoft is not actively supporting it anymore ..

Think about it this way: Would you expect Adobe to make Photoshop CS2 or even CS3 compatible with Windows Vista 64-bits?

You might find this interesting reading material ...

I love the way your cup is always half full John ;) ;D

This is Microsoft we're talking about here. The cup isn't half full, nor is it half empty, it's just time to "upgrade" to a smaller cup! ;D

I have no real experience with 64 bit anything, but you might be able to run it in "compatability mode".

:-[ Sorry for not explaining it all through, Harold and JBaymore.

I understand why you are saying that but Flight Simulator 2004 is an End Of Life product. Not for me - I still fly in FS9 and a lot of people here do too - but Microsoft is not actively supporting it anymore ..

I actually didn't mean so. What I meant is that FS2004 is one of their "newer" games. (It may be more than 5 years old, but i've seen people trying to install FS2000 on Vista.. even XP didn't exist back then :o), and Microsoft should be able to know that alot of people still have FS2004, and want to try Microsoft's strongest, newest and most fashionable OS'es. Especially when XP isn't available anymore.

And I play FS9 myself, Harold. I even find it more applying than FSX at some times (not that my FSX works now :-[), because FS9 doubles the framerates and I can also put my settings to all full on FS9, still dobling the FPS from FSX. In FS9, I play with every single setting cranked up (except ground scenery shadows (which I find totally unnecessary.. I'll spend most of my time in the air, thank you :P) and Anti-Aliasing which I have cranked up to 16xQ on my GeForce 9600. I have my FSX settings on about medium high, still struggling at about 13-14 FPS over Hawaii when I can get 50-60 in New York in FS9.

Very sorry for my bad explanation.. school has been a nightmare, and i'm new here ;)

But, on-topic: Yes, try searching Google as zacharace said or contact Microsoft. If it worked ok the day before, there must be some weird reason it won't work now.

Thanks :D

Well, remember to check on your drivers and what-not, sometimes the 64-bit support isn't great on the driver side.

Although I use Linux now, couldn't you set FS9 to run in WinXP or 2000 compatibility modes? Trying to remember how to do things on windows....what a wonderful feeling.   ;)

If all else fails, try a reinstall since it's fresh.  :P

What an interesting lot of replies!    The only reason I got Vista 64 bit is being advised too.  I mostly use Macs (Panther) but have have Windows for Flight Sim & up until now used XP which can be flakey at times but when it's going well FS is fine.      I've been fiddling with Vista & FS9 & am glad to say on the whole it's running fairly well now.  I really can't say what I've done either!  I did get new drivers, by the way.  With sliders set to the right I get frames rates of 55-60, but now locked at 28. Fingers crossed........ ::)   I've just installed MGrab so will see what screenshots I can get.    I'll reinstall FSX next  ;D    Oh - yes: I'm running FS in XP mode.

I have a question about editing cfg files in Vista, but I'll post it as a new topic.

Happy Christmas!
