starting with FS9 after flying FSX

Hello all,

I've been flying FSX for over a year but I recently picked up a copy of FS9 so I can fly the new F/A-18 made for FS9 (http://www.vrsimulations.com/index.htm - I don't want to wait another 9 months for the FSX version!).

There is a version 9.1 update available. Download here-http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=92cf4b8c-ea69-476b-a276-618c4ab52aaf&DisplayLang=en

The update may have already been applied to later retail releases. To check your out-of-box version, read the "Additional Information' paragraph on the download page.

If you do install the update, pay close attention to the instructions, particularly the need to place the 'fs91upd.exe' in your FS9 main folder before running.

FS9 is amazing on a decent computer.  I just upgraded to a new computer complete with Quad Core and 8MB Ram, which runs FSX ok, but decided to install FS9 just to see...   ;D

I too have re-installed FS9 and was wondering the same thing. Thanks for that heads-up about file placement. ;) My reason is the Multi-Player in FSX is "buggy" from what I've been reading and the majority of multi-players are using FS9. I took a test flight and WOW, talk about a difference in performance compared to FSX. Everything is maxed-out and I never wavered from my FPS limit of 40. I'll miss my FSX :'( but oh well. Now it's time to load this baby up with all of the goodies I always see for FS9.  :)

I see that most of the cockpit builders still use FS9. I've often wondered why. I'm considering installing FS9 myself. However, I have some questions:

1) What will I "miss" as you say?
2) I have many FSX add-on like FS2Crew, PMDG 747, Level-D 767, Mega Airports CDG, Heathrow, Venice, etc. Will they work?
3) What is a "must have" for FS9?
4) Is Vista 64 OK?

Anything else I need to know?

Steve, I gave my opinion of this in the Homebuild Cockpits forum section.

OK, trying to fly FS9 using the keyboard. It is way to sensitive but it takes a long time for the keystroke to make anything happen. That is, I push to climb and hold, and hold and hold, then it starts to work and ZOOMS upward way too fast.

Is there something I missed in the settings to make a more realistic flight dynamic using the keyboard?
