autoland

hi again,

I just made an autoland into EFHK with PSS a320 runway 04R.
The metar said 330/08 kts visibility 0800. So an autoland was needed and i had a crosswind of 8kts. I lined up very nice and the aircraft followed his localizer nice, until touchdown, the aircraft went to the left. He did not stayed straight upon the runway. Was this because of the crosswind? Or should i set the heading correct like the ILS? Freq. is 111.5 course 042 for runway 04R. Should I also set the course in my autopilot at heading 042?

I made with the same weather an autolanding at runway 15. So i had a tailwind of 8 kts and than the aircraft stayed nice lined up the runway. I used both autopilots on.

When do you need to turn off the autopilot at an autoland? And do i need to set the runwayheading in the autopilot?

In order to use ILS correctly, you have to set the correct frequency and the correct ILS runway heading (course).

You disengage the AP at decision height (usually about 200ft AGL) and fly the plane yourself from there.

well a bit... it was an autoland because there was fog.

At 200ft AGL you shouldn't be far from the runway at all... Meaning you should be able to see it at this point. That's why it's called "decision height."

so what happens if the visibility is lower that the decision height? Lower than 200? Because at 200ft, i couldn't see the runway at all.

If you're flying an ILS approach, the aircraft will show you where you are altitude-wise on the ILS interceptor (the line you follow down to the runway) and if you are actually lined up with it horizontally.

Read everything in this thread and you'll understand this much better. Trust me, I'm not good at explaining things
