Help I'm Grounded !

Hi Everyone, I wonder if anyone has experienced the problem i'm having at the moment. I've been using FS 2004 for quite some time, but suddenly, when I try to open FS2004 I'm confronted with an error message saying my computer has run out of memory and FS will have to exit, after which, I am unable to enter FS. and this happens every time I try to use it. My computer is a 3 gig machine, with 84% of unused free space remaining, so the problem has nothing to do with memory. If anyone out there in FS land could help me resolve this problem, I'd be most grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Bruno.

Run "disk cleanup" and see what happens.

It probably means RAM or more likely the paging file (virtual memory) You probably know more about these things than me, but this is extra memory set aside by the computer to use at times of big demand.Setting your frame rates too high or with no limit is one time when virtual memory is in big demand........20fps is ample for frame rates.
Try increasing your virtual memory...1.5 times the physical RAM is a good figure but I have mine set at 2000mb which is double my RAM.
Look in the help files for paging file and you will get the instructions on how to change it...not difficult....just a suggestion...commoner

I have mine at 30fps with my pice of crap and median settings;)
24Fps is what a movie theater will be on average

I agree with commoner: I got the same as you with my 2Gb RAM laptop, and increasing the virtual memory paging file fixed the problem.

...for on-line Multiplayer, the FPS should be fixed at 20 FPS Max...
...anything more is a waste of resources anyway...

Yes this problem came to me several times. Always found error in the config of scenery. Check latest files going into this config. remove one at a time of latest entries.. Or restore latest saved scenery.cfg.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your suggestions and input regarding my being unable to use FS2004 because of an error warning. The problem is now resolved, (Yippee !) thanks in particular to FSFyer2's suggestion, to check my latest scenery additions. I have been making and placing my own scenery objects of late, and the problem was indeed with the scenery configuration of one of the objects, which was discovered by going through them all, one by one, until I found the culprit, who now resides in that big hanger in the sky.
Thanks to this forum and you guys, I'm now back in the air.
Bruno.

Glad you got flying again...sorry you had to lose one of your sceneries but maybe..just maybe..you could have kept that with an increase in your paging file..........

Handy tip from FSFyer2 though..must add that to my problems solved "database"

What a great place is SimV.........commoner

Hi Commoner,
Losing that particular scenery file was no big deal, but I did take onboard your suggestion to increase the virtual memory, but not being a 'tweaker', I opened the help file in the Windows Task Manager for the paging file, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place, as there doesn't seem to be any means of increasing the memory there. I would appreciate it if you could run me through the proceedure for future reference, as it seems lots of people do this, and it seems a good tip.
Thanks once again,
Bruno.

...ok...to change the paging file is quite a simple proceedure....In WinXP I do the following...
Right click [My Computer]
Click [Properties]
Click [Advanced] tab then click [Settings] in the [Performance] section
Click the [Advanced] tab and then click [Change] in the [VirtualMemory] section...
Then just make the change.....commoner

Hi Commoner,
Just a quick thank you for the 'How to tweak the virtual memory' instructions. Most helpful, and most appreciated.
Thanks yet again,
Bruno.

Woah, thank you for all the replies.
What I did was just simply copy and paste the Aircraft.cfg to my desktop and finished the editing that needed to be done. Then, I simpily replaced it back in my specific aircraft's folder, and completed my task!
thannks your the fast replies!
and the help full answers!
I always find my solutions to FS9 on Simviation.
