Somestimes I just don't understand...

Sometimes I just don't understand why a plane with all the necessary files will not show up in the list of selectable aircraft. I downloaded, unzipped and installed a Grumman AgCat from another site. The plane has every requisite file needed. It unfortunately has that little brown parcel box I got after I got the latest Adobe Reader thingy, but I have put in other planes since I got that thing, too. This plane is supposed to be FS2004 compatible. It does not show up, but another AgCat (from the same site) for use in FSX shows up and functions perfectly well. I want the FS2004 one because it's painted just like one from my youth of 40 years ago. Why is it not showing up? It has all four files, the .cfg file and the .AIR brown box installer thingy. It should be there, but it ain't. I have many others that have exactly the same set-up and they are all there, so what's the deal? >:(

Someone else brought up the bit about the "brown parcel" thing.  Unfortunatly, I don't remember if that was what was causing the problem or not.

40?  You young whippersnapper! ;)

...mm....you can safely ignore the "brown paper parcel" as being the source of your problem....it is merely the .air file with a different icon...caused by an unfortunate bit of programming in a certain download.

..the cause of your problem is most likely from putting the wrong folder into your aircraft folder from the .zip........it has to be the folder that CONTAINS the other files including the said brown paper parcel etc.........

Say EXACTLY which file you downloaded and from where if you need real help....commoner ;)

Forget the Adobe AIR icon. If you care to check the FS aircraft on your PC every single AIR file will have that brown icon - unless you uninstall Adobe AIR. I thought I'd explained all that several times. As commoner points out, this is not the cause of your problem.

You can uninstall Adobe AIR from Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.

It may be there, BUT...

ui_manufacturer=Airbus
ui_type=A300B4-200
ui_variation=Air Jamaica

ui_manufacturer=Project Airbus [glow=yellow,2,300]ui_type=A300-200 [glow=yellow,2,300]< - - or under a different TYPE[/glow]
ui_variation=Air Jamaica

Or both, different manufacturer and different type

Go into the aircraft.cfg file and see what is written there, for that is how it 'shows up'

Yes, Hagar, you did well explain the "brown box" thing. I tried a few more times, but haven't gotten back to it for a few days. I will remove the offending airplane and try again...
