Alpha Bleu Ciel Corsair errors

Due to a blown h.d. I am replaceing my favorite add-ons. I just re-downloaded and installed the F4U-7 Corsair (P18 Vintage FS9) and saw a new fix. When I tried to install it, I got a message that there is an error in the AIR file but I cannot find a way around it. I suspect it's an adjustmemt to the P-factor and torque sensitivity. Anyone got a solution?

Can't you just redownload the original file and replace the fix?

IIRC; the excellent Corsair - one of the best WWII aircraft on FS9 IMO - had a ton of torque on takeoff - far more than was practicible. It was adjustable in the .cfg file though; so if you reuse the original; you can adjust that factor in the cfg file.

Hope this helps. :)

I have done that, and I did edit the config file previously but as stated I've lost all my addons. When I saw the new "Fix" d/l I thought it would resolve a few issues. Remind me again which cfg. item (s) need tweaking - I'm pretty new at fiddling with that stuff. Thanks folks!

All you should need to do is download and install the base pack, and then the update, and your Alpha Bleu Ciel Vought Corsair should behave realistically.

The Corsair was built around it's enormous engine, and you absolutely cannot just slam the throttle forward and takeoff normally. In fact, it is not even necessary, or even recommended by some, to have full power on the takeoff.
The engine has over 2,400 horsepower on it, and I would fully EXPECT it to have such a large amount of torque on takeoff at full, or near-full throttle, that the pilot would not be able to handle it.

Sean, thanks, I understand all that - had it in the previous h.d., and I know about the power settings for takeoff (NOT W.O.T.!) It's the update that gives the error message and will not install, and am looking for an answer to that issue. BTW, there's a larger d/l available (36 MB?) at another site but it contains the same error message and will not install at all.  :-/

Hi

A bit off topic, but I wanted to share this.
If you really like the Corsair check out the video at Zeno's Warbirds.

The quality isn't great, but the information in it is.

Enjoy :)

I just downloaded the Corsair & the update to check this out. First the original Corsair (corsf4u7.zip). This is an auto-installer & as usual I directed the extract path to a Temp folder to check it out & install it manually. Either way you should end up with a folder named Corsair_F4U7 in your FS9\Aircraft directory. This will give you two variations of the F4U-7 Corsair in French Navy markings.

Now the update. This contains modified FD in the form of a new AIR file & Aircraft.cfg plus a new model for the AU-1 Corsair & two new textures, Marines & Quantico. These must all be installed correctly for it to work properly. To install the update paste the new Aircraft.cfg & f4u7-4.air files plus the folders named model.u1a, texture.marines & texture.qua into your Corsair_F4U7 folder. Overwrite files/folders when prompted. All should now work as advertised. There is no need to edit or modify any files.

Yes, but there was a bit of a controversy when the aircraft first came out. The reason was that some players' systems seemed to handle it fine, while others did not. In my case, takeoff was totally impossible and not to sound like an oik; but if I can't take off safely and accurately in a sim aircraft, there's something wrong with it. Adjusting the .cfg file was a fix. :)

Hagar, thanks; I wasn't sure if one could still do a manual install in the presence of an installer utility (grown too fond of them, I guess) but I'll try that as you suggested. Staiduk, that's exactly what I did when I first installed - changed the .cfg to lessen torque and P factor (iirc) I had hoped the "fix" would take care of that. I'll do the manual install as Hagar suggests. Will post results. Thanks again, folks.

These auto-installers are simply a fancy extraction program. They work in exactly the same way as a WinZip self-extracting zipfile or manually extracting a zipfile direct to FS. This one is set up correctly so it shouldn't make any difference whether you use the auto-install or my manual method. What IS important is installing the update correctly as this has to be done manually. As you're having problems after installing the update I suspect you missed something.

Hagar, the problem with the update was that it would not install at all - a warning states that the AIR file is corrupted and the installer aborts the process. I haven't tried the manual install yet - will do tonight and report.

The update does not include an installer. You have to install it manually. I suspect the problem is with Adobe Reader 9 which includes Adobe AIR & associates all AIR files with it. This changes the file type description from 'AIR File' to 'Installer Package'. This is what it looks like. Note the new Adobe AIR file icon.

This does not change the actual file in any way & it's still an FS AIR file. If you have Adobe AIR installed & double-click on any FS AIR file you will get this error message.

The AIR file is not corrupt at all. I mentioned this problem in a topic in the FSX forum. To install the update please read my first reply carefully & follow my instructions to the letter.

Hagar, thank you - that's exactly what I was seeing and I had no idea the Adobe program was the cause. Can you point me at the relevant response? I can't seem to find it. And if you're ever in the beautiful Similkameen Valley the I.P.A is on me ;D

I hope you finally got that update installed. I wouldn't expect you to have noticed my comments on Adobe AIR in the FSX forum. This is the link. to the topic. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1223248140

It was JBaymore that first pointed out the problem with Adobe AIR so it's him we have to thank. I didn't realise the implications until I installed it myself. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1220191166

Adobe AIR is included with the latest version of Adobe Reader. I have since discovered that it's possible to uninstall it separately.
