Can't re-start my AN-2

Postby Jaypee Dippel » Fri Sep 12, 2008 3:39 pm

I've recently installed Vladimir Zhyhulskiy's Antonov AN-2. No matter what I try I can't re-start after shutting down. I've tried putting many different starters and mags on the panel and the keyboard ctrl + E. It cranks forever but won't fire. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem as well, I thought it was just a FSX problem but it looks like FS9 suffers from it too.
It must be linked to some internal system handling or something. Mine wold not start even by "dropping" it in the air with the slew mode.... and then, after a while, it started working fine... strange...

I will download and investigate shortly.

I personally use "Xomer's" AN-2,but that can be a little too complex for most simmers, so I'll investigate this different one now.

OK, after the shutdown, I cycled the battery switch, and as long as I did that, and kept the throttle cracked (not totally closed) I could shut down and restart as long as want.

Thank's for the help but that still won't start it. I assume 'cycle' the battery switch means turn it off and on. I did that and opened the throttle a bit but no go. Is it possible it needs a fuel primer switch or something? I'm not ready to give up.

Hi JP....Sean's post gives the clue here....and "keep the throttle cracked".

Hopefully you have the same AN-2 that I have....I've seen this sort of thing on other planes

Try this......

Commoner's permanent modification should do it....

One thing to remember on the panel is that if your throttle settings are too low, you will see the red amperage light turn on. Just bump up the throttle a little more until the light goes off, and then you should be fine. This plane, and the other AN-2 addon, don't like to be running with a completely closed throttle, as it should be in real life...
;)

In real life for instance, on the Cessna's that I fly, if you try to sit there with the throttle completely closed, you'll foul up the mags real quick, beyond not getting a proper electrical current. (Carbon deposits)

Ok, the modification from Commoner was not enough in my case: FSX SP2, cold and dark start from Lukla.
I finally managed to get the engine starting, with this modification in the [p

Thank's Commoner, SeanTK & Daube for the help. I will try each of these suggestions and report back. I previously adjusted the idle (max idle efficiency scaler) to keep the engine from stalling out, did'nt think about throttle limit. I guest others are having the same trouble in FSX and FS9 with this aircraft. It's good to know help is out there.

... Ok lads..well can't comment on FSX as I don't have that......but my little mod works fine for ME ;).You can bump up that number to maybe 0.1 or 0.2 or whatever you feel works for you .......hope you find something to suit you JP...commoner. ;)

Ain't she sweet though? ;D

O.K. She's airworthy now, those last aircraft.cfg changes did the trick. Hopefully these posts will help others with this plane as well, thank's so much to all of you. Another vintage aircraft saved, It's a good day.

...incidentally JP mine wouldn't turn on the ground....is yours OK?..I had to tweak the thing a little or it just taxied in a straight line which wasn't too handy ::)

Yours OK that way?....commoner :)

Hi D....is that for FSX as I only have FS9?....the one I have is AN-2T.zip which is for FS9....thanks for the file name....

The steering is now OK with a change in the contact points steering angle......it was set at 180 degrees which means it taxied in a straight line ::)

Just down loading the an2zh_08.zip which I see is also for FS9. I'll check it out for those same little "problems"...

Ok  well it's a nice package with more choice and the engine will start or at least it gives you time to catch it before it dies..the thing still goes in a straight line on taxi though ..I had to tweak that........wonder why yours turns ok :-/

...what's this with the lights I wonder...commoner :o ;)
