I know how to change the camera pan speed in FSX but is there a way to do it in FS9?

Yes. I've done it once. It's a number. I found it to be about 450 or something. I lowered it to 350 and now my Spot pans around much slower. I can't for the life of me remember where I found it. This same question was asked in these pages quite a while back. A search might help, or ask one of the really high-time mods...

It's in the FS9.cfg. Search the document for pan rate. I can't remember the heading. What you need to know though, is that this setting controls the pan rate for the whole sim. So if you set it to pan slower in spot view, the VC pan rate will be just as slow.

If 'pan rate' in the fs9.cfg file effects both the outside pan and the VC pan rate then your better of to leave it be or even make it higher, from 400 to about 900, otherwise the VC pan rate just doesnt cut it ;) even at 400 it's to slow IMHO.
It's nice to go to the outside view from time to time, but this is a 'simulator' and piloting an aircraft is usually best 'simulated' from inside the cockpit ::)

[I] find it more enjoyable watching them than flying them[, too].
