Mouse pointer freeze on options screens

I've just reloaded FS2004 after needing a new hard drive, and whilst selecting options for joystick control and such, I kept getting the mouse pointer freezing, and then had to reboot.
Has anyone else suffered this with FS2004, or does it suggest I have some other problem with my computer?
I already re-installed LOMAC and IL-2 1946, and they worked fine with options selections and Joystick assignments.
I'm using XP, and CH range of controllers.

Overclocked?

No, it shouldn't be. I bought an Nvidia 8600GTS, not an overclocked version.
But just out of interest, why would overclocking cause mouse-pointer  freezes? I'm just wondering if my power supply is being stretched to the limit with all the CH controllers plugged in.

Don't know if this is the same type of problem, but my cursor disappears for multiple seconds when I go the Create a Flight screen. I flip and flop the trackball all around, but the cursor ain't there for five or six seconds, then it shows up. Any ideas?
