G'day guys,
Long time FlightSimmer, first time poster...
Just reinstalled FS2004 and now the default 777 can't steer in taxi - the nosewheel turns to the left or right when the jet starts rolling, then it turns for a split second, then the plane keeps going straight ahead!
Sorry for the noob question, I tried a search, can you guys please help?
Thanks so much

Stew

assuming all your settings are correct ,the question i have is how fast are you taxing? does the nose gear stay in the direction of the turn? if you are going to fast in the turn or start to over accelerate in you turn the nose gear will stay turned but the plane will kinda skid straght..if your in a left turn number 1 engine should be at idle and #2 should be powerd up but at a low setting. this is a huge heavy aircraft as you know and in turns it wont like alot of speed...if none of this works if could be your settings.again if there correct then something else is going on..

Thanks for your help, 727 Driver - not taxiing fast at all - basically, when the engines spool up from idle, the nosewheel will turn, but the jet will still go straight - even at 1-5 knots!
I'll try playing with the 1&2 Engines, but my default 747 and 737 taxi perfectly without varying power to the engines...strange!

I'm guessing it's more a bug with FS9, but I could be wrong!
Thanks for your help mate

Hi Stewy44, welcome.
IMO it IS a bug, had the same problem - but fortunately there's a solution, albeit not a perfect one.
Just don't twist the joystick 'all the way.' Use a maximum of about 80% twist, and keep the speed reasonable, and the 777 will turn all right.
I expect that people who are more 'computer-minded' will be able to come up with changes to the 'aircraft.cfg' file which will fully solve the problem. But, in the meantime, less than full deflection gets you out of trouble.

You could try tweaking the steering angle of the nose gear in Aircraft.cfg. You can edit CFG files in Notepad.
point.0 is usually the nose (or tail) gear. The default steering angle of the 777 is 90 degrees like this:
[contact_points]
point.0=1, 87.42, 0.00, -17.70, 1181.1, 0, 4.521, 90.0, 1.00, 2.5, 0.7235, 4.0, 4.0, 0, 270.0, 270.0
Change it to 60 degrees like this:
[contact_points]
point.0=1, 87.42, 0.00, -17.70, 1181.1, 0, 4.521, 60.0, 1.00, 2.5, 0.7235, 4.0, 4.0, 0, 270.0, 270.0
Exit Notepad saving changes & try it. You can modify it to any value between 0.0 (fixed) & 180.0 (fully castoring).
PS. Take a backup copy of any files you intend editing in case of mistakes.
