Hi, dragboat, dont worry, we are here to help,
You must open the .cfg file with NOTEPAD. Can use de right mouse button --> open w programs from list --> notepad. Then you will see the text and can copy and paste the text from the radme file. Don't forget to change the correlative number (x) as the instructions say, and don't forget to SAVE the changes.
Hope this is what you looking for.

OK, try this. Double-click on the Aircraft.cfg file. You should get an option window like this.

Choose the [Select program from a list] option & click OK. You should now see a list of programs. Notepad will probably be near the top. Click OK to open the file in the selected program.

Which aircraft & textures are you trying to install. I need the pages the files are posted on so I can download them to check them out.

Did you paint the aircraft with fsrepaint? If you did... I think all you do is save the plane back into the flight sim aircraft folder. It will ask you do you want to overwrite. CLICK YES... This should work if you are using fsrepaint and I membered how to do it still.. lol beena long time!

Sorry. I can't walk you through it as I don't have the Cherokee. I suggest trying it with a default aircraft for your first attempt. There are plenty of repaints available right here at Simviation.
PS. Please take a backup copy of Aircraft.cfg before editing it.

If your aircraft shows up 'white' then it probably didn't load the textures on to it. Most of the times this happens when you don't tell the sim where to look for the folder with the textures. Assuming that you've added all the appropriate lines in your aircraft.cfg and gave the new aircraft a new number, it sounds to me like you didn't add the 'texture= ....' correctly. Inside your Cherokee's main folder there are different folders for all the different repaints, each one having a different name. Now, lets say that your new repaint folder is called texture.harold then you need to reference to that folder in your aircraft.cfg. so the 'new aircraft' should have a reference to the new repaint like this: texture=harold.
Hopefully this clears things up
