Some of you know what a hassle it is when FS gets your scenery.cfg file out of order.

It can be a nightmare

When you finally get it straightened out, [glow=yellow,2,300](or before FS messes it up)[/glow] you can write your enties into the cfg file instead of letting

Cool tip indeed but you might want to consider using Scenery Manager 2004. Makes life much easier :D

< - - - ooops, 99 is missing
100
101

but my scenery.cfg file numbers,

97
98
99
100
101
102...etc

I have to say that I've always routinely used a variant of Allen's technique using Windows Notepad for keeping all of my .cfg files in trim (no pun intended!). Same for .xml file editing - easier in Notepad than any of these fancy-schmancy XML editor programs!

note the numbering using that program

Try pressing renumber, it not only renumbers your scenery.cfg but it also fixes any issues you have with the layering.

I have over 450 scenery entries in my scenery.cfg and I experiment a lot with moving them around (e.g. higer and/or lower in the list) so renumbering them manually is not an option.

This actually never left my mind. I knew there was something wrong with your scenery.cfg I only didn't see it immediately. But now I know ...

You do have an issue with your scenery.cfg but you just didn't notice it yet. Your layering is wrong ... that is why Scenery Manager is 'missing' your scenery entry #99. As you don't have a layer assigned to that entry in your cfg, Flight Simulator will look for the correct layer in your scenery.cfg but it will not find it. That is a flaw which can be solved by pressing renumber in Scenery Manager ...

I ran this little test in my own scenery.cfg: I renamed the layer for the first entry to number "3". In scenery manager it also shows up as number "3".

This proves that Scenery Manager will spot faults in your scenery.cfg which you didn't even see. And also it' comes in really handy when you need to include flatten or exclude switches ...

Wow, Harold - 450 entries!

Oh hmmm ... and that is - apart from some generic things like FS Global, Ultimate Terrain, Lago and Rwy12 - only for Alaska.

Am I a nerd now? :-/ :-[ ;D
