Spare keys ?

Postby Joe60 » Mon Jun 09, 2008 3:12 pm

What key is never or hardly ever used ?
I ask because I find many aircraft that have drag chutes always use one of 3 pretty well used items.
F5/F8 (flaps) - L (lights) or Tail hook.
If at all possible I want to change this even it means re-doing the .mdl file as its very irritating to say the least.

Usually, the drag chute action is linked to the "spoilers" key (/). I'm not sure if it can be changed. I mean, you could assign any key to the spoilers function, but if the model was compiled to link the drag chute visual effect to the spoilers, I'm not sure that you can change it.

Or am I confused?

As I have never coded a .mdl yet, I'm not sure how one allocates a key for it but I intend finding out.
I gather that the on/off action is subject to some 'action' rather than some 'key' stroke.
For instance if the chute is activated by the 'L' switch, and you now re-assign a key for the lights to say 'O' then the drag chute follows and now if you press 'O' the lights come on/off and the chute opens, while pressing 'L' just nothing happens.
It seems like M$ forgot all about some planes having a drag chute thus no key was ever assigned, hence modders have had to make some sort of compromise.
Even in FSX I don't see any assignment for a drag chute which is a serious oversight, unless its called by some obscure name, yet they have assignments for items like drop tanks.
