FS9 Virtual Cockpit

I have got a little problem.

It goes like this; FS9 runs like heaven on my pc (luckily..). I always got good framerates and stabel flights. But, when I switch to my Virtual Cockpit, something strange happens. At first the framerate is still perfect, but after a few seconds (5-10-20, it depends) the framerate drops big time for a few seconds, and then goes back to normal. And then, again after a few seconds, it drops, and gets back to normal, en so on and so on..

Does someone know what it causing this?  :D

All aircraft?...or a particular aircraft?

If a certain ac, a link to the download would be helpful.

Does it happen in the default ac?

What are your 'normal' frame rates and what does it drop to?

My normal framerates are 30-40 outside view, 35-50 2D cockpit, 25-35 in VC. If it drops in VC it hit's 14-18 for a few seconds, and then poof it shoots up again... And of course drops again...  :-[

Apparently you have FPS set to a high number or Unlimited?

Try locking your frame rate to something around 24-30 FPS. Hopefully this will smooth things out.

Nop, doesn't help...  :'(

It almost sounds like FS is caching the scenery, or lagging behind with it, how much RAM and virtual memory do you have?

...like Pepper says, I would put the problem down to lack of RAM...

If your Hard drive light is flickering when the game freezes, or slows down, the data is spooling off your Hard Drive instead of using Fast Ram!

You need at least 2 GB of Ram for FS 2004!

..and lock your Frame rate to 20 FPS...

I have 1gig of RAM. Where can I view the virtual memory?

My further specs: 3.0Gh Dual Core
GeForce 6700XL 124mb
200HD

Oh, only all of my downloaded planes heve this problem. The default planes do not have this problem... If it would help, I could make some screenshots of things...? Don't know what, but if it helpt though...

And fozzer: 20fps...? That's a no go...  ::) 20fps is way to low for me... About 30 is okay... (I have 30-75 fps usually when not in the virtual cockpit.. So 20fps is overkill... :P ). Oh and one more thing, in some Virtual cockpit my frames are 38, and drops to 30. If the frames in another virtual cockpit are 30, it drops to 20.. It seems that no matter what, the frames in my virtual cockpit drop about 10fps every few seconds..

Locking your Frame Rate at 20 FPS will definitely make the game run"smoother", and if you use on-line multiplayer you HAVE to lock your Frame rate to 20 FPS so that EVERYONES game runs smooth!

SMOOTHNESS is important!

...also...Reduce your visibility and Traffic, and you need 2 GB of Memory!!

I understand; smooth is good... But 20fps is not smooth! lol :P Or I just want to much...  ;D

Lordluud, the human eye can't see faster than +/- 30 fps so setting your FS to higher fps is nonsense.

I think you have all your sliders in settings to the right? Try reducing them a little. It might help a lot. Set you traffic to 70 - 80%. Reduce the amount of clouds in the sky. Clouds uses a lot of frames. Just experiment.

Crash ;)

EDIT: read this and apply it

I have everything quite low, that's the problem. No Vy-sync, only 17% traffic, medium textures, bilinear filtering, normal view view distance etv... 30% object density, 30% scenery complexity, 30% autogen dencity (my english sucks, I know..)... Everything is quite low...

The human eye can see up to 72 frames, the 30 frames thing is a myth from the old days, then a grahic manufacturer put up a demo of a game, one at 30 frames, the other at 60, and everyone could clearly see the differance. nowadays most games have a specific 72HZ mode, meaning 72 frames per second.

Although the human eye can detect such rates(even higher, try playing BF on 100/150FPS) it is not required for games that arent twitch games(fast response shooters etc). 25/30 frames it perfectly acceptable for flightsimulator, i prefer 30 frames, to get it all a little smoother when panning with a TIR in the VC.
