I've searched google for a specific time and place to see them but I cant find it. I know they exist, as my friend told me he saw one, and so has another. Does anyone have details on where they saw one?

No.

I don't think MS put in metors and comets as they don't really have much of a relevance to flight. The thing you or your friends have seen are mostly high altitude aircraft with contrails. The lighting from the sun in the game might make it look like a comet. ;)

I have never seen one but apparently, by accounts, they do appear.

The effects files do exist (fx_shootstar1 (and 2).fx and fx_shtstar.bmp. (File dates indicate they were in FS2002 also.)

As shooting stars (meteors and meteorites, not comets) are in general random events in nature I don't know if you can put a time and place on them in the sim. It would depend on how they are spawned in the sim.

It does appear looking at the effects files (and by other accounts) that they are not visible from the cockpit, only the spot and tower views. Maybe someone with more knowledge of effects files could enlighten us.

Yes, they do exist, I have seen them quite often while beta testing Jupiter-2's LOL

They are random and best seen at high altitudes.

Well I have seen 2 weeks ago from my flight from Los angeles to Sydney over the ocean on a alltitude of 52000 ft. at night time. I was looking around with the spot view and looked up in the sky and left the view and there was a shooting star in the sky I thought it might be a plane but I couldn't have been so yeah they do exist :)

It's my exploding Gas Cooker, performing a regular orbit of the Earth, trailing a load of accessories and various cooking utensils... :o...!

(Not to confused with Geostationary Objects like Communication Satellites.... they are mostly harmless).

Paul... ;)....!

The only time I see Shooting Stars in the Sim, is shortly after banging my head on the table whilst positioning my floor-mounted Pedals... :'(...!
