Hello

Is it possible to declare an emergency over the radio whenever you encounter problems or failures? I tried the electrical failure and I wanted to do an emergency landing but I could not declare an emergency... I know the radio is also down with no electrical power, but I thought there was also an transpondercode for ac's in this kind of situation...

Unfortunately, there is no way to do that in FS2004 OR I believe in FSX either.

Flying online with live ATC on some flight servers there is the possibility of doing that kind of thing, but all such actions are "outside" the sim itself.

You can just "pretend" and fly the appropriate procedures yourself.  Just don't expect the airport or other traffic to be ready for you or ATC to tell you anything.

Emergency Transponder codes are:
7700: General Emergency[1]
7600: Lost Communications[1]
7500: Unlawful Interference (Hijack)[1]

As John stated in the sim you can't declare an emergency which kind of takes the fun out of having an emergency if you ask me to some extent.

Another thought though, if you have no power to your radio to to an electrical failure your transponder will also be innoperational so transponder settings would do you absolutely no good unless you had just lost power to your radio which would then be a whole new type of emergency and transponder codes.

That's a real shame indeed, no emergency in FS9. But do the transpondercodes work, or do they trigger also no reaction?

This is something that should be fixed in a future FS. Any chance of finding an ATC Mod that allow you to declare an emergency?

Also, there are to few failures, if u ask me. Yesterday I saw an episode of MAYDAY MAYDAY and a United DC10 who lost all hydraulics, and I wanted to try what the pilots of that plane did: Using both remaining engines (As the nr.2 engine broke down, resulting in the loss of hydraulic fluid) to steer the plane and attempt an emergency landing.

You can change the transponder codes...... but they do nothing.

There USED to be what looked like a great payware addon for FS2004 called ALERT !! that simulated a LOT of inter-related and "developing" (as in if not fixed, spreading to involve more systems) aircraft systems emergcencies.  

But the last time I checked...... it was no longer available.

This is one thing that lets fs down in my honest opionion. Maybe it will be implemented one day. I hope so!

There's an add-on called FS passengers. Free fully functioning demo but you can only fly out of KSFO. I think it's $50ish to buy the full version. But in that it has many more simulated emergencies (Birdstrike, engine failures, etc.) Those failures occur at random and allow you to choose how often they occur but not what happens and when like normal fs. With that program the transponder codes work and you get bonus points for declaring the correct emergency when one actually happens. Only problem is it doesn't recognize normal fs failures so you can't use those while using FSP.

There's alot more involved with FSP than just the emergencies if you want to get into operating your own virtual airline but you can set it up so the rest of those things don't matter if all you want is emergencies. It's worth a shot to try the demo and see if it's what you're looking for.

Theres no way to declare an actual emergency as mentioned.  However if you are flying an IFR flight plan you have the ATC option to change your destination and be vectored in.  But unlike a real life emergency this will bring you in according to the normal approach instead of an immediate strait in.  If AI traffic gets involved you may find yourself in a pickle when ATC decides to make your now 1 engine 747 go around

I did used to have FSPassenger and it was great! then I upgraded to FSX.

However, I have just put FS2004 on my new system so I'm sure FSPassengers will make an appearence  :)
