Graphics problem, full screen mode only

I (finally) put a graphics card in my computer.   Saphire X1650 256M ram, ATI chipset.

I got the updated drivers, then I tweaked the brightness/color etc to my liking. Everything works just great until I try to go to full screen mode in FS04. When I do that the display reverts back to what it looked like before I tweaked the settings, which happens to be very dark.

What is going on? Is there a setting in a config file or something that is telling FS to ignore my settings, but only when in full screen mode?

Switching back to a window fixes everything.

AMD Athelon 64 x2 processor/ 2 gig of ram/ Windows XP pro/ old graphics were onboard Nvidia 6100 (which never worked correctly for more than a day or two at at time with FS04)

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer

In the "settings" section it recognizes the right card
As for the time, it is deliberately set to be midday summertime, clear weather so I can see what happens when I make changes to the video settings.

As for tweaking the fs9 settings, I have left them the same as they have been in the past.

I get the feeling that there is something simple that I am missing. Why should things always work except in full screen mode? There must be something that tells FS9 to ignore the video settings in full screen mode, but what?

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

AHH-HA!

Found it. The graphics card has separate settings for full screen mode in its controll center.
