FS Shutting Down when I fly into Ketchican

Postby chief1995 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:48 pm

I suspect this is a scenery problem. When I fly into Ketchican or try to start my flight there FS shuts down. I can fly to other  airports ad not have any problems.
Please don't tell me to uninstall and reinstall  :( .  If I am missing files how do I determine which I am  missing?  Or is it another problem?
Any ideas will be appreciated, and don't tell me not to fly into Ketchican its it one of my favorite airports!

Thanks ALL,

Chief

Hi Chief. If Ketchican is one of your favourite airports it was presumably working fine until recently. The first thing you need to consider is which addons (if any) you installed or removed directly before this happened.

Good Point, Hagar. I should have mentioned in my post that I haven't installed anything in FS before the problem started.
I flew in the there the night before with no problems. Then last night is when the problems started.

Thanks,

Chief

OK. Have you installed or changed anything else? It might not appear to be directly related to FS.

Since there is no repair option you could unzip the default scenery to a folder outside of fs then compare the two folders to see if you can spot one missing or one that might have a different date on it. This process could take a while but it is better than uninstalling 8-)

uninstall and reinstall isn't that difficult, the hassle is tweaking everything again...

copy your fs9.cfg, and your scenery.cfg and put them someplace safe, this way it will be as it was

(look over you scenery.cfg and see if it seems to be numbered correctly)

uninstall, and reinstall run it once to see that Ketchican works

now put your two .cfg files back, [glow=yellow,2,300]ONE AT A TIME[/glow], and

if it isn't fixed after you put the OLD .cfg files in, then you NOW know where the problem is

I finally, was able to figure out what was causing the problem, but its still not completely solved. A while back (way before I had the shutting down problem) I had installed the Glacier Bay scenery by Holger. It comes in two sections the "scenery" and the "landscape". BY the process of elimination ( disabling in the scenery library) I found out that the "landscape" section is causing my problem. I need to find out what is causing the conflict, The Glacier Bay scenery is fantastic and as I said before, Ketchikan is one of my favorite airports.
I welcome any and all suggestions.

Thanks,

Chief

I hate to tell you bad news but there might not be a fix for this problem. I would suggest you contact the author of the other program and see what they have to say about it.  8-)

You are right Gary, I have already done that am waiting to hear back. If we can't work it out, I will have to bite the bullet, and switch from one to the other as I plan my flights.
I appreciate everyones suggestions!

Cheers,  8-)
