Just take a look at this:

I know it should be possible to make the textures of that mountain look sharp by changing some values in the fs9.cfg...but which are these?
Any help appreciated!

I think it is anisotropic filtering, try to set it higher in your graphic card settings...

example:

The one on the right has more anisotropic filtering.

Try setting insim texture filtering to Trilinear, and x16 in your driver settings page. You can also do some tweaks for fs9.cfg... but I don't have that installed anymore.

Try opening up fs9.cfg and finding and modifying the value to these:
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT= <---Try fiddling with this setting. Higher values can make textures load faster but can also cause stutters. Max value of 400.

Lock framerate at 15 to 35. Try experimenting. Try 22 for a start.

That assumes your computer can handle fs9 maxed out no problems at all. You can try lowering Terrain extended levels to 1.

...maybe it's just me...

...but I always experience any scenery in the distance as being "blurry" whether on the ground or in the air...real or simulated... ;)...!

Mist, fog, smoke, etc, will always blur objects and scenery in the distance, which is why I always set my sight distance, in the Weather Settings, to 5 to 10 miles max to look realistic... :)...!

Take a real flight in a real Cessna 172 at an altitude of 1,000 - 2,000 feet AGL, and you will notice that the scenery in the distance can barely be identified... :o...!

Paul...G-BPLF.... 8-)...!

...."...should have gone to Specsavers".... :-/...!

... ;D...!

I agree with fozzer, but more importantly, low quality in the distance allows me better close up textures! it's a nice trade off.

And, no fozzer, it's not your eyes. I have the same thing happen, and i have almost perfect vision (and i'm 15)  8-)

You may find this helpful...the cfg. mods included are really effective.
