Following problem: as soon as I activate the Altitude button of any autopilot (be it in a cessna or in a 747), the plane pitches nose down in a suicidal dive which results in a crash if the autopilot is not deactivated. HDG and Speed work fine.

please help me out, it

Have you set the correct altitude for it before you activate it?

I'll add to that: Did you also set your rate of climb before activating it?

Since you're flying longhaul, also check to see if your NAV/GPS button is set correctly.

yep, everything is set correctly. But I found out why this happened: a button of my joystick got stuck; this button happens to be attributed to "change trim forward". Anyway, I still have no idea why it only starts when the AP-altitude is activated.

do you have a button for master auto pilot, if so is it near your trim button?
