A quick question about installing 'gauges'

Postby Lordluud2 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 1:34 pm

Hi,

At first let me say, I love this place, just because of all the aircraft enthousiasts that are featured on this site here. It might occured to you that i'm a new guy here so, be easy on me  ;D

Well, my question is this: I've downloaded an airplane (the wonderfull BAE-146), but I cannot get the gauges to work. In the Winrar file there is off course the model, sound, panel etc. package. I've installed this one without any problems. But, there is also a file called 'gauges and sound', and within that file, there are two files called sound and gauges. I installed the sound file, and everything went alright. But, when I want to install the gauges (wich I must have in order to land this beauty), the gauges wont show up in the game.

I first unzip them in my FS Downloads map, located in the FS2004 main file.. Eh, place (i'm a Dutch guy, and my English isn't perfect...  :-/ ). Then I copy the gauges file into my FS2004 gauges location, but it just wont work.

Does someone know how I can make this work? And oh yes, in my main FS2004 gauges map, (do I say this right?) there is another map called program files, within there another Microsoft games map, and then an Flight simulator 9 map, and then gauges again... I think this happend because of a faulty installation of an downloaded aircraft.

So please, if someone would like to help me, i'de appreciate that  ::)

Hello My Lord...mmm...first royalty we had on here I think :o..well your first question would probably be fairly easy IF you told us exactly which download and where you got it from..

Secondly...I might not be the brightest kid on the block but I don't understand any of that....by map do you mean folder?....even so I can't figure out what has happened there............commoner :-/

BTW welcome to the madhouse  ;)

Hi & welcome. Without more information I can only give you general advice. Downloads vary but in most cases you would paste the contents of the Gauges folder from the zipfile into the FS9\Gauges folder. This will be one or more files in GAU or CAB format & sometimes folders containing BMP & XLS files. It's possible the contents of the Sound folder you mention (WAV files) should go into the FS9\Sound folder, not the Sound subfolder of the aircraft.

If you tell me the exact page you downloaded this aircraft from I can check it out for you.

And oh yes, in my main FS2004 gauges map, (do I say this right?) there is another map called program files, within there another Microsoft games map, and then an Flight simulator 9 map, and then gauges again... I think this happend because of a faulty installation of an downloaded aircraft.

In this case I would open the last gauges folder & move the contents up several levels into the FS9\Gauges directory.

That's the problem. I just did. There are all kinds of files in there, and one .cab file. I selected them all, and pasted them into the gauges folder... But, it's all still the same. No gauges whatsoever...  Weird..  :'(

Oh yes, i works :D I had to select the first gauges folder :D Thanks for all the help people  ;D

You're welcome to the help. There should only be one Gauges folder. That's the first one.

To avoid further confusion I suggest you open that duplicate "gauges" folder & move any files it contains into the main FS9\Gauges directory. Then delete the dummy Program Files folder you mentioned. The one in the FS9\Gauges folder. Be very careful & make sure you remove the correct one. :o

Unless you're absolutely certain you understand what I'm saying it might be better to leave well alone.
