Navigation Training

I've been flying exclusively under VFR conditions since I started using FS9. I'd like to start using IFR techniques. Is there software or books available that will give tutorials on how to map routes, use SIDs and STARS and ILS, etc.?

Thanks,
Techhead

There are a bunch of them just use GOOGLE. You can look at the training cenetr as well there are lessons you can take while trying to pass the check rides are almost impossiable they can be passed. I would advice you pick any single engine propeller driven air craft like the Cessna 150. I perfer the low wing aircraft like most Pippers such as the Cherokee .
But you need to learn how tho use the VOR ADF and GPS gauges. The VOR gauge in the Cessna uses twin needles and this can be confusing to some. But once you learn how to read it it really is easy A HSI gauge is not as confussing I think the Mooney uses one but I can not remember now.
But you wabt to start out with a fixed gear aircraft before you go into something like the mooney. The mooney would be your next step then go into the Baron and then the King Air. From there I would suggest you go to the lear 45 then go from there the HEAVIES like the B747 or B777 would be the last choice.
Any questions do not be affraid to ask here. 8-)

I'm always amazed that very few newcomers seem to think about trying the "Flying Lessons" included with the Simulator... :o...!!

Radio Navigation is covered in detail, as well as general flying lessons...!

It's certainly a good start..!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

For anyone who has an original copy of FS 2002, or Pro Pilot 2, they will also have an excellent Flight Manual!!

A fair bit of basic advice on flight planning, VOR/ADF navigation etc. in the first few pages of an 'Adventure' I wrote up ('FS2004 Round The World In A Prop,' about halfway down). Hope it helps.

QFE!  ;)

I completely agree with Paul, and would like to echo his words here. When talking about navigation in FS, the lessons provided give you such a great foundation to go off.  No, they are not "perfect"; the practical flight lessons and check rides can drive you nutty (they expect you do EVERYTHING right or they kick you back to the beginning of the flight).  But, there is plenty of information there to help you use VFR navigation in FS.

Of course, you are still super welcome to post your questions.  But, you may save yourself some waiting by checking the flight lessons out.

Best of luck,
