Now my sim after working the 1st time, is saying " This computer has run out of available memory. Flight simulator will now close. Etc... "
then something about not having enough room on the hard drive, I have 50 gbs left on that drive, i also have 2 gbs of ram and Fs2004 doesnt even come close to using all that

This should be a sticky...  ::)
It's a common problem.
it's not talking about your hard drive capacity per se, it's talking about volatile memory: RAM.
You probably have enough RAM capacity as far as the RAM modules go; it is more likely the size of the "virtual memory" cache, which is part of the hard drive reserved for RAM-type memory functions. FS9 seems very dependent on having enough room there.

To adjust it (in Windows XP):
Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Advanced (tab)
Performance>Settings
Advanced (tab)

-This will take you to a page where you will see "virtual memory" listed, and you can change it there.
Mine is set at 860, and that works fine for FS9, etc. Try bumping it up in small increments until it works- don't want to use more of the HDD for that than absolutely necessary.

I had the same issue, and I've found that the browser in the background occupied ~150Mb, and some other small utils further tens of memories. I recommend to exit all applications which you don't really need when using FS. Also I increased the Virtual memory size, and let the system make it on multiple drives - just to be on the safe side...it was really annoying when it crashed during my EDDF-EGLL right in the middle of approach...

Greetings, neu

;)I have once again had this notice re memory, and always it is a conflict with the scenery.cfg and the relationship to the AF2_????.
One am this morning I fixed it. The cause my German airports and random AF2files I put into scenery.
I have FSManager which stores backup scenery.cfg files. I just restored and earlier file.

Not to take files for granted it is only a PC. "rubbish in, rubbish out"

If you are using XP it should automatically adjust your cache. When I fly into a downloaded airport like Fiumicino i often get a warning triangle, but the system adjusts as neccessary.

How much PHYSICAL memory are you using. Sometimes having too much can result in this error. Also, what OS are you using?

Does your bios have a "graphics aperture size" setting?

Sorry, I missed the 2gigs part of your first post.

Well I'm guessing if you aren't sure if you have the bios setting I was talking about, then it's probably still set to default, and therefore most likely ok.

Check this thread:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 63028653/0

Specifically where Nickn talks about setting your virtual memory.

Quoted and taken out of context, so please read the thread thoroughly before making any changes.....

"If you are using 2gigs or more memory, place a bullet in CUSTOM SIZE then enter the following in BOTH MIN and MAX boxes: 3070

If you are running less than 2 gigs, place a bullet in SYSTEM MANAGED.

The page file ALWAYS goes on the boot drive with WindowsXP. Never move it.

Click SET then OK and the next box click APPLY and OK to close it.

The system may ask you to reboot, select YES"

More of a tweak than the solution to a problem, but it may help.
