Slow FPS....?

well there's this....
5.4fps

15.1fps

what a huge difference

and since lights in 2004 generally look awful anyway,
the fix is simple ;D turn 'em off

yeah, I know, it's my vid card, but turning off the lights is a whole lot cheaper than a new card ;)

It is, but if you're down to turning off the lights to be able to taxi at less than 20 fps you're badly in need of a new card anyway  :P
What airport is that? Judging by the palm trees, can I guess Princess Juliana? If it is so then no wonder you get 5 fps; that scenery is a resource eater on low end systems.

I think I read somewhere (here probably!) that FS9 only uses one of the two cores in a dual core, so you may not be getting the performance that you think you are.

Also, if that's the Posky 744, you can gain a bit of performance by converting the textures to DXT3 via DXTBmp, or a similar program. Some will say there's a quality loss in conversion from 32 to 16 bit textures, but if visible (I can't see it) then it's a worthwhile trade-off for system performance IMHO.

;)

I've converted the textures, but the FPS change by turning off the lights remains CONSTANT, regardless of texture

ANYWAY,

the point of this is so that those who experience slow fps might check and see if shutting off the lights helps, that is all it's about.

In that case, I don't know what else to suggest. I just tried it for myself on my humble single core 2.0 GHz/1G RAM/Radeon 9200SE machine and cycling the lights made no difference at all, either in scenery-intense areas or not.

Anybody else got any ideas?

:-?

Never seen lights alone cause a framerate drop... there must be something else, related to that command, that is bogging down the system (?).

Radeon 9200SE < - -  yes, I said earlier, it's me card,

but I'm NOT gonna spend the bucks for a GREAT card.

And for those who DIDN'T know lights can cause a problem, I started this thread

I know the solutions

1. Buy a card

2. Turn off the lights

;D

....with other planes, the default 747 for example, there is NO difference in fps, lights on or off

dual core using only one core in fs9?...does that mean that only one core is used in a quad core??...holding my breath.....

I think the reality is that the multi core units work as a single unit till multi core needs come up
